Patrick Swayze, best known for his role in Dirty Dancing, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told that he has just five weeks to live.
Swayze, 55, has been sick with the disease since he was diagnosed in late January with pancreatic cancer. The cancer has since spread to other organs and now the actor/dancer is dying.
For the past month, Swayze has been traveling to Stanford University's prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful, according to the National Enquirer.
Swayze received three treatments of chemotherapy, causing the tumor to shrink, but less than his doctors had hoped for. He was then told that he should prepare for the end.

WTF ???
1st; Jeff Healy, now Patrick Swayze himself has terminal cancer?? Holy Sh*t! This Is Not Good!
Best Wishes are in order!
He doesn't seem the type to just curl up and die. I'm sure he'll fight it as long as possible.
I think it's time to not be nice to that cancer.
The whole "National Enquirer" bit of this gives me hope. I really hope this isn't true. For many reasons, of course, but also because if it is, I'm going to feel REALLY creepy about that Swayze-bathed-in-heavenly-light picture I posted yesterday in the "Are You Pondering" thread.
In case you need further hope, a few internet searches reveal that only a handful of other sources are reporting this, and all of them quote the Enquirer. Until a credible news outlet comes forward with actual sources, I'm calling this a hoax.
Anyone who quotes the National Enquirer as a source is automatically a joke.
Here's a Fox News story (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,335210,00.html) on the report, which basically echos the NE report, but also quotes a source that says "he's seemed fine lately". I say it's overblown shite.
I'm not sure..
FoxNews has picked up on the story..

Yeah, I've been trying to find some sort of confirmation outside the Enquirer's article, but no such luck yet.
And, after seeing that picture, I'm sure there's some poorly timed joke I could make about all the sudden having the urge to sit at a pottery wheel.

To be fair, though I agree that there is a certain dubious nature to this news, cancer can hit rapidly and brutally. He could very well have been rehearsing one week and near death the next. And the article doesn't say that he's on his deathbed yet.
I'm still scouring the web to see if Swayze himself has said anything about the news.
It wouldn't surprise me if Swayze really does have cancer, but it's par for the course for the National Enquirer to take news like "Patrick Swayze Diagnosed With Cancer" and run with the headline "SWAYZE HAS 5 WEEKS TO LIVE!!!"

True. Like the Grey's Anatomy guy who had a mole on his lip removed and OK! Magazine's next cover story was "Justin Chambers Cancer Devastation" or something. The tabs are nothing if not sensitive and rational.
Yeah, I'm waiting for the announcement from Swayze's reps before I start crying over whether or not Red Dawn is going to get riffed.
To further support the Enquirer (I know, huh?), pancreatic cancer is one of those fast cancers. Once diagnosed most people don't live 3-6 months. It's the cancer with the highest mortality rate and one of the quickest mortality rates. So, people do go from normal to dead in no time.
Of course, the Enquirer could have saddled him with pancreatic cancer just 'cause they know that and it sounds more believable than some other kind of cancer too.
http://www.pagesix.com/story/patrick+swayze+has+cancer
It's true. I'm going to cry.
QuoteDirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and might only have weeks to live, a rep for the star said today.
The 55-year-old star's publicist confirmed to Page Six that he's suffering from pancreatic cancer, which could tragically bring down the curtain on his remarkably diverse career.
Patrick was diagnosed with the cancer more than a month ago.
The average life expectancy is six to nine months, with only 4 percent of patients living more than five years.
On February 5, Page Six reported that the Ghost star underwent a serious "gastrointestinal procedure" at Stanford University Medical Center. At the time, his spokesperson said that the treatment went well and he was "home and happy" following the procedure.
Patrick recently wrapped filming on the A&E TV movie The Beast, in which he plays an FBI agent. An insider at Sony Pictures tells PageSix.com there were no problems, "health or otherwise," while Patrick was filming.
Okay. I was wrong, and this is very sad.
Aww. That's a shame. :(

This from an hour ago:
Patrick Swayze, who starred in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, his doctor says.
"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," Dr. Patrick George says in a statement. "All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."
The actor's rep adds: "Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."
Well that's good news!

But he's been fighting a rare form of cancer (that robbed him of his eyesight) all his life...
We can't let them take Sam Elliott too! Whatever evil force hellbent on destroying the cast of Road House musst be vanquished. AT ALL COSTS!!
Julie Michaels is still pretty hot by the way, especially for a stuntwoman.
Seriously though, all smartass comments aside, Patrick Swayze seems like a genuinely nice guy. Hopes and prayers that he can beat this thing. Somebody on another board told me that pancreatic cancer only has a 20% survival rate.

Well, in an odd bit of synchronicity, I just received word that an old friend of the family discovered yesterday that she also has pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, she's had chemo in the past and the type used to combat pancreatic cancer isn't one that she's responded favorably to, so the doctor's prognosis was basically, "Try to enjoy what time you have left."
This has not been a good week.

I hope this turns out for the best. If he's been diagnosed since the end of January, and his doctors are saying it's very limited and looks to be optimistic, then I think we all have reason for hope.

I don't think that's the issue. No one else here has said they're going to lose sleep over it either.
Of course grief over celebrities can get way out of control; witness Diana-mania. But there's a big distance between that, and a little sympathy and commiseration and a few new avatars on a message board.

What I truly remember Patrick Swayze for is when he did the SNL Chippendale's skit with Chris Farley. While I've never really been a fan of his movies, he proved right there was that he was a good guy and he had the ability to laugh at himself. So, for that, I feel for the guy. I hope the story's all a pile of crap and he ends up okay.
For that reason I wish he would riff Red Dawn, or whatever movie he wants, with Mike sometime. Maybe after he gets better.

What makes you think crap like this DOESN'T happen to some D-list celebrity who no one cares about and you just don't hear about it because they're some D-list celebrity who no one cares about? Patrick Swayze is C-list at best. You're hearing about him here because of his constant cheesy movie roles, which kicks him up to Joe Don Baker levels of A-listedness. But consider the context. I mean, what's the last Patrick Swayze movie you went to see?

Is there something in the fucking water or something?
There does seem to have been a huge upswing in cases. When I was little my nan passed from breast cancer and it seemed really unusual (admittedly I was little but the grown ups in my family also seemed to find it really unheard of) now cancer seems like something you're lucky, almost unlikely, not to have a personal brush with at some point in your life :(

Part of it is that we're living longer and cancer inevitable happens to everyone/everything if they live long enough (wow, that was happy). It's just that the older you are, the more likely your cells are to make a mistake. Another part of it is that everyone has a mammogram now (well, women) and everyone has a colonscopy and we have PET scans and blood tests, etc that we never had before. Just 20 years ago, people would have died from some cancers that we can detect and now and it would have been assumed to be because some other disease and not cancer. So, part of it is knowledge and detection. Then, another part of it is the "information super highway." We communicate so easily nowadays. Your distant cousin who you never see can text you in 5 minutes now, but back then you might have just heard he died and never knew why.
I'm not sure if I believe the actual rates are going up, but I'm also not sure I believe they aren't.
I kind of feel like this is my fault . . . .
Last sunday I'd finally managed to convince my boyfriend and our friend to watch the Rifftrax of Roadhouse. But then our friend chickened out because he didn't want to go to the video store, so we ended up watching Night of the Living Dead (which didn't sych up right).
The next day, Jeff Heley was dead.
Two days later, Patrick Swayze announced he has cancer.
Coincidence?

Sometimes it seems like every third person in my church has cancer, plus my mom, plus my grandmother, plus my best friend (all three happily recovered now, thank God) . . . it's endless.
On the other hand, I remember C. S. Lewis writing about how his mother, father, and wife had all died of cancer. Maybe it wasn't as rare back in the old days as we tend to think from our perspective.

I think all diseases are in an upswing. Imo medicine has just delayed the inevitable . In ecology we were taught a great deal about population thresholds. The human population is way way over the amount our world can sustain. Basically if the population keeps going up over this limit, your in for a big crash. In our case it's going to be cancer, crazy viruses, weird diseases like autism.....on and on. It's a biproduct of our lifestyle. We can get anything we want, but it all has consequences. We're effectively controlling our own evolution and unfortunately there are going to be problems. Children arent going through puberty at the age of 10 for no reason. :-\ It's not the end of the world, but more of another step, forward or even backwards, depending on how we handle these issues and than a lot of it, is completely out of our control. Kinda went too deep sorry
Considering that children used to be married and having kids themselves at the age of 16/17, I don't know that puberty age has decreased that much. The studies that I've read have only found a difference when they compared the poor and undernourished of "olden time" to people of today. Of course you're not going to go through puberty as soon if you're not eating enough to sustain your own normal body functions, which was fairly common in olden times. You see that in animals too and even anorexia stops a woman's menstruation. I'm not saying that I've read every study out there, but the ones that I have found the menstrual age in the rich in "olden time" was comparable to today.
It's weird that, before our time, people used to be considered old maids in their 20s. Individuals we consider as "children" now (and who act like children) used to have families, farms, etc (out of necessity more than want probably). Not that that is the better way, but we've imposed our views of chastity and obedience on a group that once had a whole lot more freedom (and sense). Not that I would encourage any of the 17 year olds I know to have kids and start a farm. They are very immature, but apparently that wasn't always the case.
You made me think A LOT
I just think there's more "rich" people. I feel even lower classes are rich compared to the pre-1900's. I mean I'm not well off, however I have way more than enough food, shelter, 2 cars, toys, and more than enough luxuries, but I'm considered poor.
My point, most of the kids have everything they need, comparatively; Including estrogen in the water supply. Which actually could be the real reason girls menstate earlier. Basically it's from women receiving estrogen replacement therapy, pass their estogen to the water supp;y, because it doesn't break down quickly.....Think of all the meds we take now........hell, kids on adderall. Medicine is changing everything.

All stated with the certitude that can only come from a complete lack of objective evidence.

There was an article about drugs in the water linked to the reputable beacon of public information known as slashdot today (in other words, take with a grain of salt).
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080309/ap_on_re_us/pharmawater_i_4;_ylt=ArJ7VfgNcnDbrdEsPogmg7gE1vAI
Is it mean and horrible that I laughed out loud when I read this, "A sex hormone was detected in San Francisco's drinking water." Explains a lot about San Fran!
My opinion, since I'm a pharmacist I know a little about drug effects on the body. I find it hard to believe that trace amounts of most drugs would have any long term effects at all. They don't even have any long term effects on the people who use them (blood pressure medications: you stop taking them and your blood pressure goes up, etc). Even some of the negative effects go away when you stop the drug because the body has organs (kidney, liver, intestines) that constantly filter those drugs out. The long term effects that stay around are when a drug damages and organ or cell, which they can and will do, but most of that is even dose related. We routinely do "drug levels" on patients and the only ones who have even have therapeutic doses of drugs stay around are people who have problems with their major organs.
Your body also adjusts its own production of hormones based on the hormones you're given. That's why when you take prednisone, you have to take 5 today, 4 tomorrow, 3, 2, 1...it's "tapering" the dose. Your adrenal glands says, "eh, you're getting all the cortisol you need. I'm going to take a nap" but when you start getting less and less, it says, "Hmm, I better kick it up." Estrogen is similar as are the male sex hormones.
Your body tries very hard to keep itself balanced. Transgender people have to take a whopping dose to overcome that natural urge of the body to regulate. For the estrogens, they take 4-5 times the recommended dose and the dose we give to normal women is small to begin with.
Until I see real evidence to contrary, I'm not going to worry about my water.

Are they all the same kind (or related kinds) of cancer?" Because there might be something to that if that's the case.
No, several different kinds. But still, it seems weird sometimes. Of course, it's a big church close to an urban area, and I suppose it's likely that any large group in that situation might have a large incidence of cancer. My parents go to a different church not far away, and their church started a prayer ministry just for people who have cancer. It's usually a pretty long list.
I've been tied to a wooden stake in my sleep :o Ok you've all called me on drugs in the water having an effect, the population being over limit, girls menstruating earlier, antibiotics and drugs causing immunity weakness and drug resistance, cancer on the rise, and people in church.
Yes, let me type up my thesis right now in response, to more opinions. Obviously I cannot be right about everything and I know that. I see this more as a big picture, not a four fold inevitable cluster fuck that we cannot escape. I think we need to be aware at what is going on around us. This really is far to complicated of issues to debate on a forum.
I'm not going to copy and paste crap, anyone can do that and unless it's a scientific article I'm not showing it nor taking it as counter argument. I once spent about 40 days teaching people on a forum about evolution, not easy, it's not easy to teach much of this. If I had a debate with another ecologist, ok, but that would be like amanda trying to teach us how to make tylenol.....idk. ;D and then us having a debate on the best way buffer such and such reaction in step 5 of the assay.
I've written and erased my response about 5 times now, ya know what with reactions like I got, I'm not touching any of this, research it on your own, come to your own conclusions. Cancer sucks, disease sucks, Patrick Swayze's cool......peace out.

To be fair, Quicksilver, I was actually responding to Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck, who has apparently never met a half-assed rumor she couldn't internalize and attempt to present as fact.
Oh, and speaking of, here's this from the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics:
http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/118/5/2245?hits=10&FIRSTINDEX=0&FULLTEXT=early+menstruation&SEARCHID=1&gca=pediatrics%3B118%2F5%2F2245& (http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/118/5/2245?hits=10&FIRSTINDEX=0&FULLTEXT=early+menstruation&SEARCHID=1&gca=pediatrics%3B118%2F5%2F2245&)
For anyone who doesn't have time to slog through the whole thing, here's the relevant portion (citations for all the statistics stated appear in the full article):
Menarche
From the early 1800s to the mid-1950s, menarche occured at increasingly younger ages in the United States, but there has been no further decline in the last 40 to 50 years. This finding also has been seen in international studies of other developed urban populations. The US National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys have found no significant change in the median age at menarche over the past 30 years except among the non-Hispanic black population, which has a 5.5-month earlier age at menarche than it did 30 years ago. Age at menarche varies internationally and especially in less developed countries; in Haiti, for example, the mean age at menarche is 15.37 years. This knowledge may be especially pertinent for practitioners with a large number of immigrant families in their patient population. Although onset of puberty and menarche typically occur at a later age in females from less well-developed nations, 2 large studies have confirmed that a higher gain in body mass index (BMI) during childhood is related to an earlier onset of puberty. This earlier onset of puberty may result from attainment of a minimal requisite body mass at a younger age. Other possible explanations for the perceived trend in timing and progression of puberty are environmental factors, including socioeconomic conditions, nutrition, and access to preventive health care.
Despite variations worldwide and within the US population, median age at menarche has remained relatively stable, between 12 and 13 years, across well-nourished populations in developed countries. The median age of females when they have their first period or menarche is 12.43 years (see Table 1). Only 10% of females are menstruating at 11.11 years of age; 90% are menstruating by 13.75 years of age. The median age at which black female adolescents begin to menstruate is earlier (12.06 years of age) than the median age for Hispanic (12.25 years of age) and non-Hispanic white (12.55 years of age) females.3 Although black girls start to mature earlier than non-Hispanic white and Hispanic girls, US females complete secondary sexual development at approximately the same ages.

I will say that the "rather big story" was in the media and not in a journal or a reputable scientific publication. The media tends to exaggerate even reputable scientific studies to the slant of "oh noes, we're all going to die." It's funny when you actually go and read some of the articles they cite. Inevitably, they got it wrong. Generally, they concentrate one aspect and forget the context. That "rather big story" reeks of that, even though it wasn't based on a journal.
I've also never seen a reputable study that links growth hormone in chickens to early puberty. Is it possible one exists? Sure. It's something regularly quoted by the emo kid at my local organic market to get me to buy overpriced fruits, I guess it has to be true. We give relatively large amounts of growth hormone to kids sometimes, it doesn't give them precocious puberty. If a small amount can do it, shouldn't a larger amount do it too? If it did cause it, would precocious puberty rates not be much higher?
That emo kid says bacon causes cancer too. Poor Bill and his bacon fetish.

Reminds me of a bit that Lewis Black does. He asks the audience if milk is good for you. When he gets a moment of silence he says, "See? We don't know anymore. It changes every day." And the same, he explains, goes about drinking water and how much. Add to that that most times you don't
always know who these Experts actually work for...what side of the issue their paycheck may depend on.
Meanwhile...some people see themselves....

That article was pretty good and exactly what I meant. However seeing it wasnt about the actual topic and was merely using the explanation as a background, I tried out some of the references.
Like this one, that finds there was a correlation between obesity and and onset of puberty.

Not to nitpick but the Black segment is on eggs, not milk.
Depends on the show, I'm pretty sure in Black on Broadway he does it about Milk.

If the NE is still standing firm on their story that he has five weeks to live, well, then congratulations, they're harassing a dying man with cameras and judgement. Let's say he is terminal: then who gives a shit if he smokes? Leave him in peace. These things make me sick.
My Mom had Metastatic Lung Cancer. She let it go until the doctors had to give her chemo during the biopsy. It was so advanced - crushing her windpipe.
She went through a new form of chemo through the teaching hospital at Jackson Memorial in Miami. That was brutal but it put it into complete remission. She started smoking again and was dead in two weeks.
If he's really terminal, there's no point ripping apart his system with chemo.
If he's going to take chemo, he's wasting his time if he's going to smoke.
(and no, gbeenie, I can't back that a website - just personal experience)

I just heard about this the other day, then I heard the 5 weeks to live and watched a clip on the news. I don't think that the press should have jumped ahead and told the public first on something like this, I can understand wanting to be the first on the next big thing like another Paris Hilton sex tape or Britney spears "no panties with dress" shot, but this is a mans life (possibly lack there of) they made public. They should have let him be the one to announce it to his fans.
Then I read the yahoo article on the blind guitars from road house (didn't know his name before that), dieing of cancer himself. It's like Road House is for some reason cursed all of a sudden, not often two actors from the same movie get sick from the same thing...weird but I hope he pulls through, he has to make more movies!

Fucked up shit happening to a celebrity is no different than fucked up shit happening in third world countries, unless you plan to strap on a backpack and go help one or the other. It's all voyeurism and negativity. Mostly it's there to distract you and make you feel better about your own crap life. But most news is worthless except for the occasional, "The British Are Coming!" Of course, nine times out of ten it turns out to be an actual invasion, and not something really horrible like a pop band.

Indiana Family Gives Swayze HopeQuoteMovie star Patrick Swayze has been given a huge boost in his pancreatic cancer battle - an Indiana family has launched a campaign to force U.S. medical bosses to make a revolutionary new treatment available to sufferers. The Loughmans of Indianapolis launched their new initiative on Monday in a desperate bid to find a cure for the family matriarch, who ironically is a big fan of the ailing Ghost star. Connie Loughman was diagnosed with deadly pancreatic cancer last summer, just months before Swayze was diagnosed. As part of their public campaign, the Loughman family has launched the website CureConnieAndPatrick.com and they've also produced a new video promoting their efforts. A spokesman for the Loughmans says, "Well-meaning, but misguided, regulations have tied the hands of the Food & Drug Administration and the biotechnology firm, Genvec, from providing access to the only drug shown to cure the disease. Meanwhile, 90 percent of patients die within one year of being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 95 percent are dead within five years of diagnosis. The Loughman family hopes that public pressure will convince the Fda and biotechnology firm, Genvec, to cut through the red tape and grant access of the gene therapy Tnferade to Mrs. Loughman... and others battling pancreatic cancer, including actor Patrick Swayze."

FDA gets a bad rap, they're just trying to create standards. As a smoker I realize the risks of my habbit and I'm sure Patrick Swayze knew the risks. Can't go blaming everything on FDA, its thinking like that that makes books like http://www.infomercialsitv.com/naturalcures.htm best sellers
...
It seems a little opportunistic for them to use Patrick Swayze's name to push their agenda. As far as i know, he has nothing to do with their website. And i haven't really looked over the information regarding TNFerade, but i'm not sure Swayze himself supports pushing it through the FDA for approval. I just posted the story here for it's relevance since it seems like branding the effort with Swayze's name has been pretty effective... as far as media coverage is concerned.

Reminds me of that scene from "Man on the Moon" where he goes to that holistic healer and gets that fake chunk of meat pulled out of him.
Pancreatic cancer would make me a believer though.
Er, so how does this Indiana family know about some top secret, hushed-up treatment that the FDA won't pass?
That drug (it's actually a DNA vector type thing) is in clinical trials. If you qualify, you can possibly have access to the drug. Their site says they are looking for people to join the study.
Maybe the Swaze can join.
http://www.centerwatch.com/trials/trial2472.html
People who complain about the FDA "red tape" are usually the first to complain when a drug is found out to have side effects years later. "They should have told us." You can't have it both ways.
I guess in pancreatic cancer, it doesn't matter much. The FDA actually has a "fast track" for terminal illnesses and rare diseases though. I assume this drug is in such a track. It looks like their original study didn't have many participants anyway.
I doubt he would join the study. Mostly because it takes a certain type of person to do something like that. If you've got one of the quickest and most irreversible type of cancer, you probably just want to make the most of your life. I've seen 2 people go from pancreatic cancer and it was really fast, and really painful for everyone around. I wouldnt think he'd want to be in an experiment.
That and I wish they said more on that site, it's not the most promising, but definitely very experimental.
Well there is this:
QuoteActor Patrick Swayze - who revealed he is suffering from pancreatic cancer earlier this month - is taking an experimental drug in a bid to beat cancer.
The Dirty Dancing star is taking Vatalanib, a new treatment being developed in the ongoing fight with the potentially fatal disease.
Dr M Wasif Saif, the Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Yale University's Gastrointestinal Program, said Patrick should respond well to the drug because of his high fitness levels.
Dr Saif told America's OK! magazine: "The drug that Patrick Swayze is taking, Vatalanib, is still in the experimental stage. But recent studies have shown promise for patients taking the drug who are in excellent physical shape."
Patrick is a keen dancer and horse rider, and his friend John Fusano insists the 55-year-old is in great physical shape.
Fusano, who owns the East Valley Feed and Tack company, said: "Patrick orders supplies for his horses from us. I haven't seen him in a while, but he's a strapping giant of a man. He's got tree trunks for legs!"
Vatalanib blocks the growth and spread of cancer by affecting molecules specifically involved in carcinogenesis - the process which turns normal cells into cancerous cells.
Experimental drugs are generally only used on patients suffering from a terminal illness.
Patrick's representative Dr George Fisher has denied reports the Ghost actor has only weeks to live, insisting: "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue.
"We are considerably more optimistic."
well that kind of fills in the missing piece, now I take back everything. :P

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE readers, Swayze says:
"Thought I'd give you guys a little update. Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa's birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and (we) were able to find her something really special and much deserved! In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well."

Most of that came from tabloids...they love a good celebrity death story, and believe it or not, sometimes they will engage in journalism that is less than fully scrupulous.
I'll give you a second to recover from the shock of that revelation.
Interesting that comes from March...that was about the same time Randy Pausch was representing the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network before Congress. For those of you who don't know, Randy Pausch was a CMU professor who died of pancreatic cancer just a little over a week ago...and if you haven't seen his Last Lecture (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3115188410730134929) video, you really should.
Yeah, best of all possible luck to Swayze...pancreatic is one of the deadliest cancers there is. I'm glad the guy is working and seems to be holding up OK, but odds are he'll be gone within a year.

Just found this..
From FoxNews
QuoteActor Patrick Swayze is firing back at the media outlets that have been reporting his cancer has spread by arguing that he is still fighting the "good fight."
The "Ghost" star, 56, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, fired back at claims he has been saying goodbye to members of his family.
In a statement to FOX News, Swayze said that he "very proud" of the work he has done on his new series "The Beast," and that he is winning the battle against cancer so far.
"I am happy to be back home for the holidays," Swayze said. "It's a great feeling of accomplishment to say you're gonna do something and do it.
"The only thorn in my side being that many tabloids have been consistently reporting lies and false information about me and those close to me," he continued. "And latest, they're reporting that I'm on my last legs and saying goodbye my tearful family!
"Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease and from the moment I was diagnosed, I knew I was in for the fight of my life. It's a battle, and so far, I've been winning. I'm one of the lucky few that responds well to treatment."
Patrick Swayze: 'Chemo is Hell on Wheels' Patrick Swayze Diagnosed With Pancreatic Cancer Swayze called the tabloid rumors "downright emotional cruelty."
"It's upsetting that the shoddy and reckless reporting from these publications cast a negative shadow on the positive and good fight I'm fighting," he said, adding "that makes me angry when hope is so precious."
News of the actor's illness surfaced in March, when initial tabloid reports said that he had only five weeks left to live.
But Swayze and his physicians have maintained that he is responding well to treatment. According to a statement from his physician George Fisher, "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue."
Swayze did say however that his chemotherapy treatments are like "hell on wheels," but pledged that he would remain positive in spite of the fact that statistics say he was "a dead man."
In a way this could be good for him emotionally, if he looks at it the right way.

I always think the best revenge is feeding your enemies their own lungs. But that's me.
Really? I thought it was ripping their heart out of their chest and showing it to them.
Or maybe bludgeoning them to death with your own nutsack.

A Barbara Walters special devoted entirely to Swayze-including his first television interview since being diagnosed with cancer-is airing January 7 on ABC. (http://abc.go.com/specials/barbarawalterspecial/index)
QuoteSwayze 'may live only two years'
Swayze's interview with Barbara Walters will be shown on ABC
Actor Patrick Swayze, who has pancreatic cancer, has admitted he may survive only two years.
Speaking in his first US TV interview since he was diagnosed with the disease, the Dirty Dancing star said he was "scared" and "going through hell".
The 56-year-old refused painkillers while working on new TV drama The Beast, and missed only a day-and-a-half of the show's tough filming schedule.
He also denied being on his deathbed and "saying goodbye to people". 'Wishful thinking' "Am I dying? Am I giving up? Am I on my death bed? Am I saying goodbye to people? No way," Swayze told TV interviewer Barbara Walters.
But the star, whose other screen credits include romantic movie Ghost, admitted that he still asks himself: "Why me?"
Swayze plays veteran FBI agent Charles Barker in The Beast. Swayze added that he wanted to survive long enough for a cure to be found, but said that beating the disease for five years was "pretty wishful thinking".
"I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life, not lived in the shadow of cancer but in the light," he said. The actor added that people thought he was "out of his mind" to shoot the new detective series while undergoing a rigorous and experimental treatment - and without pain relief.
The Beast is due to debut on US cable channel A&E next week.
"When you're shooting you can't do drugs... 'cos it takes the edge off your brain," said Swayze.
He was diagnosed with the disease early last year, and in December issued a statement denying US tabloid reports that he was close to death. He said that he was winning his fight against cancer and called the stories "lies and false information". Pancreatic cancer is one of the most virulent forms of cancer which medical experts say has a 5% five-year survival rate.

His only press releases from now on should be "Pain Don't Hurt!"
QuotePatrick Swayze Hospitalized
Posted Jan 9th 2009 3:30PM by TMZ Staff
Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital after he came down with pneumonia.
Abbe Raven, the president of A&E network, told a panel of reporters the news at an industry event. Swayze was supposed to be part of a presentation for his show on the network, "The Beast."
Raven said, "He asked us specifically to go forward with today's panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery."
Swayze revealed last year that he is battling pancreatic cancer.

Wow That is sad :'( If it weren't for Roadhouse we mite not even have Rifftrax. I think I will watch Roadhouse and Red Dawn tonight. Those are two movies that are so silly that they become awesome. Truely he was up there as one of the kings of cheese and I will be praying for his family. So sad.
RIP.
Damn That Sux.. :'(
Well, he didn't go without a fight. RIP, Patrick. You'll be missed. :'(
We joke a lot, but Swayze really was the man. Of all the recent celebrity deaths, I think this one makes me the most sad. We'll miss you!
That's the thing about pancreatic cancer... it's got a crazy high mortality rate. I have heard of very few people getting it and actually surviving (I think the only way really is a pancreas transplant at the very, very earliest stage).
Total bummer.
Yeah I've not heard of anyone really beating the odds on it.
When people say "Pancreatic Cancer" they generally mean exocrine pancreatic cancer, Jobs had endocrine pancreatic cancer. Different prognosis.
He was truly the Swayziest, as was his Christmas.
