Why couldn't crap like this happen to some D-list celebrity who no one cares about like Kathy Griffin or something.... Sorry if that sounded really insensitive. I hate that woman and think she is an abomination to comedy and acting. Patrick seems like one of the nicest guys on the planet. He is a great actor and can poke fun of himself. All around good guy and great actor.

I wish you a speedy recovery and a long life Pat.

Wow....wishing someone cancer.

Thank god you didn't make a joke....people would be really mad at you then.

BTW, AMC is showing Red Dawn tonight at 10:15 EST - don't know if it's because of this or just a coincidence.

And for those of you who love that Chippendales SNL bit....

(for some reason it won't embed)

Looking at him there - looks like he takes care of himself, a dancer, athletic - makes me think of Lewis Black on "The Daily Show".  Paraphrasing, he was saying that Leni Riefenstahl (Hitler's filmmaker) dies at the age of 101....and not very long before John Ritter (who's never done anything really to anybody as far as we know) drops dead suddenly in his Fifties of a heart defect that doctors wouldn't have found even if they were looking for something...if that's not proof there is no God....   :'(

You know, I'm shocked... SHOCKED.. no one has posted this video yet...

Spoiler

Totally Tangential Note (tm): I always forget how good of a singer Kevin Murphy is.

And I would be lying if I hadn't secretly, in my deepest darkest places, wished bad things on Joey Lawrence. Mostly baldness, but still...

Wolverines.

Edited to add spoiler thingie...

Well, in an odd bit of synchronicity, I just received word that an old friend of the family discovered yesterday that she also has pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, she's had chemo in the past and the type used to combat pancreatic cancer isn't one that she's responded favorably to, so the doctor's prognosis was basically, "Try to enjoy what time you have left."

This has not been a good week.

Compound, keeping your friend in my thoughts.

Just found out the doctors think my grandpa has lung cancer.  Now I have to write my Swayze article, which is sad as it is,  and try to keep it a semi-happy tribute and my grandpa's all I'll be able to think about.  Indeed, this has not been a good week.

There does seem to have been a huge upswing in cases. When I was little my nan passed from breast cancer and it seemed really unusual (admittedly I was little but the grown ups in my family also seemed to find it really unheard of) now cancer seems like something you're  lucky, almost unlikely, not to have a personal brush with at some point in your life :(

Courtney & Compound, my best wishes are with your loved ones.

Part of it is that we're living longer and cancer inevitable happens to everyone/everything if they live long enough (wow, that was happy).  It's just that the older you are, the more likely your cells are to make a mistake.  Another part of it is that everyone has a mammogram now (well, women) and everyone has a colonscopy and we have PET scans and blood tests, etc that we never had before.  Just 20 years ago, people would have died from some cancers that we can detect and now and it would have been assumed to be because some other disease and not cancer.  So, part of it is knowledge and detection.  Then, another part of it is the "information super highway."  We communicate so easily nowadays. Your distant cousin who you never see can text you in 5 minutes now, but back then you might have just heard he died and never knew why.

I'm not sure if I believe the actual rates are going up, but I'm also not sure I believe they aren't.
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

I kind of feel like this is my fault . . . .

Last sunday I'd finally managed to convince my boyfriend and our friend to watch the Rifftrax of Roadhouse.  But then our friend chickened out because he didn't want to go to the video store, so we ended up watching Night of the Living Dead (which didn't sych up right).

The next day, Jeff Heley was dead.

Two days later, Patrick Swayze announced he has cancer.

Coincidence?

XOXO,
Libby

Sometimes it seems like every third person in my church has cancer, plus my mom, plus my grandmother, plus my best friend (all three happily recovered now, thank God) . . . it's endless.

On the other hand, I remember C. S. Lewis writing about how his mother, father, and wife had all died of cancer. Maybe it wasn't as rare back in the old days as we tend to think from our perspective.
"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal." C. S. Lewis

Bring back Bridget!

cs lewis was only writing that in the 50s maybe even the 40s,   shouldnt the old days be longer ago than that.
