Whoopi Goldberg says her friend Patrick Swayze -- who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer -- is the reason she won an Oscar for "Ghost."

Sure he is. I was just sharing mine.

Oh, and Compound, I'm sorry to hear your bad news. Prayer offered for your friend.

Yeah, actually the idea of Compound's friend being sick is more troublesome, because it affects someone I know--even if it's only peripherally.  So I do offer genuine well-wishes here.  And I do, on some abstract level, wish the best for PS.  But not on any level where I actually -feel- anything, you know?

I do understand. You can't force feelings, especially about someone you don't know.

Why couldn't crap like this happen to some D-list celebrity who no one cares about like Kathy Griffin or something.... Sorry if that sounded really insensitive. I hate that woman and think she is an abomination to comedy and acting. Patrick seems like one of the nicest guys on the planet. He is a great actor and can poke fun of himself. All around good guy and great actor.

I wish you a speedy recovery and a long life Pat.

Wish she'd get fired and never be seen on television again.  Not cancer.

I'm not saying I WANT her to have cancer... just if I had a choice of what celebrity I HAD to give it to... it would be her...

Tripe

I quite like Kathy Griffin, I'd be sad if she had cancer.

I wouldn't give cancer to anyone.

I like wishing unpleasant but ultimately harmless things on people.

Oh, yeah.  Thanks for making me oversleep today.  Bastard!

What makes you think crap like this DOESN'T happen to some D-list celebrity who no one cares about and you just don't hear about it because they're some D-list celebrity who no one cares about? Patrick Swayze is C-list at best. You're hearing about him here because of his constant cheesy movie roles, which kicks him up to Joe Don Baker levels of A-listedness. But consider the context. I mean, what's the last Patrick Swayze movie you went to see?

I hope that Patrick Swayze and others like him recover soon. I'm sure all of you out there will share my wishes with a great big "DITTO".

Aaahh! This movie just throws you violently into the next scene!

Like when someone cuts me off in traffic, I think, "I hope you get a zit inside your nostril," or if I'm quite angry, "I hope you get a benign tumor, but have to wait 48 hours to get the biopsy results."

And of course the ever-popular "May the fleas of a thousand camels inherit your armpits."
