Never understood the love for the original Mummy. One of the most tedious movies I can think of.
The 1932 one?

Oops, no - I meant the remake franchise.
FINE

Pak-Man

So would it even be possible at this point to return any of the Universal Monsters to the horror genre? It feels like they're so ingrained in pop culture that there's nothing left to surprise/scare us with.

Imrahil

I loved the '99 Mummy.  Not the sequels, but loved the first.

This looks like a shit sandwich.

I don't think they can while making them major blockbusters. If they pulled back, they probably could - especially with some of them (The Wolf Man for example). But I don't think they have any interest in that.

Agreed. They just want them to be the next superhero franchise, complete with an Avengers style crossover. That prohibits them from being truly scary.

As for how you'd make the Universal Monsters scary again...I still say you could do it if you had them terrifying young dumb fans of the modern pussified versions of monsters.

Asbestos Bill

So who in god's name asked for a grim-dark Cars sequel? I know there's some law now that the third movie has to be gritty, but Cars?

Johnny Unusual

If I had to guess, it's probably going to be less of a "dark" movie and more of a "comeback kid" story or a "Main Character Car becomes a coach of a Young Car" like in Creed or, you know, Cars 1.

goflyblind

i like cracked's explanation, that this is a prequel where a race driver gets in an accident, goes into a coma, and the other cars movies are the coma dreams of the driver.

Cars 2 has set the bar so low, it doesn't really matter what they do.
FINE

Pak-Man

I'm guessing Lightning McQueen's injuries will be career-ending and he's going to have to come to terms with not doing what he was born to do. That would already make it a better tale than Cars 2, as Grug said.

The Lurker

Looks like Aylum's moved on to ripping off animated movies now

Johnny Unusual

Troll and what?  Troll and what?!?

Cyrusso

I'm trying to decide what word best describes that trailer and it's a toss up between about 10 different adjectives. Here's a hint:  :gouge:
A soldier in the war on poverty

The Lurker

@Darth Geek I smell a potentially interesting Midnight Screenings

It looks like somebody combined the first part of Eragon with that lame Pete's Dragon remake. And then cast the main military bad guy with one of The Hills Have Eyes mutants!

As bad as it looks, it's probably not going to be as bad as the My Pet Monster movie.
