I'm not so much asking myself "why the hell are we getting a Rampage movie?" as I am "why the hell do we care who it stars, even if it is Dwayn Johnson?" Seriously, of all the kaiju movies where we DON'T care about the human characters, this is the most important one!

I shook my head at this. The Depeche Mode cover isn't even the worst thing, they're just ripping the anime off wholesale with shots and now they're doing this "who am I" thing with the Major? You know, what GiTS isn't about?

And what the hell's with Batou? His eye things seem to be stuff he wears from time to time and they look really stupid now? Togusa isn't supposed to be that old, he's like 40 in the movies and SAC...God, there's so many layers of suck in this, I just...I need to lie down.

They are too close and not close enough to the source material?

I wasn't as negative as Zeether, but it doesn't look as interesting to me.  If they are doing the Puppet Master story from the first movie, I'm less interested.  I'd rather they do what the TV series did and focus on wholly unique terrorist threats and philosophical/ethical ponderings.  I have no interest in seeing the Puppet Master, The Laughing Man or the Individual Eleven again.

Wasn't the character actually naked in the anime?

That's supposed to be her stealth camo, they're ripping off the shot from the '95 film where she dives off the building while invisible. I think she's naked using it that one time but I don't remember.

Edit: Yeah, she does go naked during that in the anime (there's no real explanation as to why it happens, probably just "fanservice" and it's kinda ehhhh). I forgot despite having seen the 20th anniversary version on Hulu last year. And yeah, I don't like how they seem to be just sort of mashing stuff together because it seems like they're doing story elements from the original, SAC and Innocence all at once.

A few days old but the Stargate reboot Emmerich was working on is basically dead: http://www.avclub.com/article/stargate-reboot-doomed-246148

I'm glad, because after 10+ years of the TV series establishing a fantastic universe I'd hate to see Emmerich reboot it with his dirty hands, especially since I was almost bored to tears by just the trailer for Independence Day 2. MGM's supposedly still committed to the franchise so I can only hope that means they'll take it elsewhere.

Eh, looks big and bombastic. But the big question is whether it's fun, like the 1999 movie. It certainly doesn't look like they are trying to swing it back around to horror, unfortunately.

Never understood the love for the original Mummy. One of the most tedious movies I can think of.
