Top 50 iRiffs
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:56:42 PM »
IT HAS BEGUN!
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/LrQ2pKMwQC4?version=3&amp;amp;hl=en_US" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/LrQ2pKMwQC4?version=3&amp;amp;hl=en_US</a>

Bear with me as I seem to be having some trouble embedding sample videos on the new forum (not sure why that one worked and the others don't)

Also,  some of the groups I am less familiar with. So feel free to post additional info on them if you are a fan.

Cinester Theater - IT Part 1
(Total Points: 18    Number of Lists: 1  Highest Ranking: #6 mattwnelson)

Tim Curry in clown makeup and British demon teeth! Couple that with the production values of a made-for-TV Stephen King adaptation movie. Surefire nightmare fuel! What, that doesn't scare you? Well, how about flashbacks. Tons of 'em! Mwahahaha! Oh, and apparently the density of things relative to water is scary, too.

This movie is most known for: Reminding people who are afraid of clowns WHY they are afraid of clowns. Reminding people who don't like Maine WHY they don't like Maine.

Noted riffs:
"Ew, right on the tick"
"Hold on, I lost my page, I'll find it in a minute and SCARE you!"
You're gonna get a surprise --- "I'll buy you something really nice!"
"Here lies Pennywise. Thoughtlessly killed by Georgie."

Available on Netflix Instant? No.

Purchase: http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/cinester-theater/cinester-theater-presents-stephen-kings-it-part-one

About the group: Aaaand we start off the list with a really good one. Cinester Theater has been going for a few years and is one of my personal MUST BUYs. This riff is the first half of IT, the two part TV mini-series. The other half was riffed by Hor-Riff-ic Productions. Despite their tendancies to riff different types of movies, their riffs complement each other well.

Hor-Riff-ic Productions - Leprechaun
(Total Points: 18    Number of Lists: 2  Highest Ranking: #2 SJP)

Sometimes, terrifying things come in small packages. Not this time. Warwick Davis stars as the most easily puntable killer ever as, the Leprechaun. Yes, sit back with a sack of potatoes and a Guiness to watch centuries of Irish folklore be turned into a "monster of the week" episode of Erie Indiana.

This movie is most known for: On the upside, giving Warwick Davis work. On the downside, in the sequels, giving Warwick Davis really easy work.

Noted riffs:
Burn in Hell, you little green bastard! --- "Ironically, those were Fred Flintstone's last words, too."
"I'm a Pilgrim, dumbass."

Available on Netflix Instant? No.

Purchase:http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/hor-riff-ic-productions/hor-riff-ic-leprechaun

About the group: Hor-Riff-ic Productions. Another one of my personal MUST BUY iRiff groups. They have been the most successful in building riffing "personalities" and using them to their fullest potential. They have also made thier name brand by riffing exclusively horror (or horror related) movies. THeir signature is riffing through the entire Friday the 13th series, which they are five movies in so far.

Hor-Riff-ic Productions - Poltergeist
(Total Points: 18    Number of Lists: 2  Highest Ranking: #15 Darth Geek)

Turns out, Native Americans figured out that whole "ownership of land" thing after all. It just took them a long time. Like, after they were dead. So they decide to haunt only one house out of hundreds built over their sacred burial grounds. Now that I think about it, maybe the creepy clown doll the beevertoothed kid had was really responible for the whole thing. It worked in Ghost House.

This movie is most known for: Wondering whether Steven Spielberg or Toby Hooper directed it. Watching Coach get high and be an irresponsible parent. The short lived sport of Kitchen Slip-n-Slide.

Noted riffs:
The whole "how to fold a house" bit
"Yah. Was her mother a pug?"
Carol-Ann/hitchhiker
Colgate
Optical illusion
'Living on a boat’
The spiritual fire code
The ghost scissors

Available on Netflix Instant? No.

Ronin Fox Trax - A Nightmare on Elm Street
(Total Points: 19    Number of Lists: 2  Highest Ranking: #14 @ScottOTD)

This movie was part of the slasher flick boom of the 80s. It differentiated itself by having a killer with a truly unique modus operendi, appearance and memorable personality (even at the beginning, before they cheesed him up and it became lame). Supposedly based on a dream that Wes Craven had. Apparently he dreams of killing Johnny Depp in a shower of blood. I know I do.

This movie is most known for: The introduction of Johnny Depp. The momorable killing of Johnny Depp. Making knife fingered gloves creepy.

Noted riffs:
"Ah, the raw sexuality drips off the screen like butter. Frozen sticks of butter."
Stations of the greaser.
MIDWEST!!!
Freddy gained fifty pounds and...
Gimme back my mannequin!

Available on Netflix Instant? No.

Purchase: http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/ronin-fox-trax/ronin-fox-trax-a-nightmare-elm-street

About the group: Another staple of iRiffs, Ronin Fox has a long history of quality riffing. They do like to riff horror movies, but unlike Hor-Riff-ic they do not exclusively riff that genre. They have made their name in riffing through the Nightmare on Elm Street series, and are up to part 5.

Incognito Cinema Warriors XP - Bride of the Gorilla
(Total Points: 20    Number of Lists: 1  Highest Ranking: #2 Asbestos Bill)

*sigh*Nothing good ever comes of a Voodoo curse, you ever notice that? Barney (not the dinosaur, but this movie would be a LOT more funny if it was) is a plantation owner with a hot wife. At least UNTIL a voodoo woman curses him and turns him into a monkey. How has this movie never been remade with Rob Schneider?

This movie is most known for: Being the real inpiration for "You'll never make a monkey out of me! Oh my God, I was wrong. It was Earth all along! You finally made a monkey (Yes you finally made a monkey) Yes you finally made a monkey out of meeeee!"

Noted riffs:
Unfound. Fans, post some, and I will put them here.

About the group: I am unfamiliar with Incognito Cinama Warriors myself, but they predate iRiffs by a year or two. And they seem to be one of the only groups that does a true MST3K type experience, with characters, robot puppets, silhouettes, a premis and everything. They also specialize in obscure movies (usually public domain it seems), and they sell DVDs that they ship in the mail. No syncing neccessary!

Purchase: http://www.icwxp.com/Merch/BrideProductPage.html

Available on Netflix Instant? Unnecessary, it is a DVD.

Sample: Couldn't find one.

Fun With Flicks - Buck Rogers in Planet Outlaws
(Total Points: 20    Number of Lists: 1  Highest Ranking: #6 Compound)

When planets are outlawed, only outlaws will have planets. Or...something. What, get off my back, it's a silly Buck Rogers seriel, for Gods sakes! Made in 1939 (edited into one movie in 1953) before they knew cardboard wouldn't withstand the harshness of outer space.

This movie is most known for: Starring a guy named Crabbe. Yes, that is the actor's name.

Noted riffs:
"Meta-narrative by God."
"Hmm. Depression era Hoth."

Available on Netflix Instant? Unnecessary, it is VOD.

About the group: Josh Way riffs in Fun With Flicks, one of the early iRiff groups. He most often does shorts, but this Buck Rogers seriel is an exception.

Just Andrew - Classic Commercials 3
(Total Points: 20    Number of Lists: 1  Highest Ranking: #4 mattwnelson)

BUY STUFF! What, you need more explanation? Ok, BUY MORE OF OUR STUFF!

This movie is most known for: Shameless capitalism. And sex. And drugs.

Noted riffs:
"This is video footage of Chris Farley in Heaven."

Available on Netflix Instant? Unnecessary, it is VOD.

About the group: Just Andrew is another group I am unfamiliar with. He riffs public domain movies, and in this case, an edited together group of old commercials.

Purchase: http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/just-andrew-classic-commercials-3-sex-and-drugs-0
Sample: Couldn't find one.

(Total Points: 19    Number of Lists: 2  Highest Ranking: #14 @ScottOTD)

Say, didn't know this one made the list.  Bringing on a memory flood.  Riffing a movie I liked this much was a challenge, but Freddy just gives so much for a riffer to work with.  One of my favorite memories, as embarassing as it was, was having to explain to DraCCu who Lionel Richie was so the Dancin on the Celing reference made sense.

Vox-O-Rox - Krull
(Total Points: 20    Number of Lists: 2  Highest Ranking: #5 mattwnelson)

When your movie is batshit insane, even by 80s fantasy pics, THAT is saying something! A buff hero with bumbling sidekicks who has to save a princess. Okay, that doesn't sound so crazy. But this has an appearing and dissapearing villain castle lair. And a cool five bladed frisbee thing that looks like it should have ironic "hands off" stickers all over it. Big humanlike bat creatures that dissolve people with their hugs. Yeah, it's a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

This movie is most known for: Um...it's fucking KRULL!

Noted riffs:
"The man loves his lime jello!"

Available on Netflix Instant? Yes

About the group: Another group I am unfamiliar with. But it takes some manly fortitude to sit through Krull enough to write riffs, so I will give them that. Not a particularly prolific group (only 3 so far).
