It's only one step above showing the movie you're watching IN the movie you're watching.  Case in point, Beastmaster 2.
Better movies have done similar things and it still bothers me. Like when Star Trek 3 showed edited footage from Star Trek 2 as if it were security footage.

Well, that wasn't an ad for the other movie, though. It's crass self promotion I was talking about.

Watching Hobgoblins now. I just noticed that in the flashback scene when the aliens first land, the (then younger) security guard is reading a pamphlet with a poster for The Visitants. Which is another one of Rick Sloane's movies. Isn't that considered really bad taste, showing ads for your own movie in one of your movies?

If your name is Burt I. Gordon, it's standard business practice.  :highfive:

That actually doesn't bother me as much. As a small filmmaker who probably desperately needs the promotion I can understand it, and as long as it isn't the focus of the scene its just like a little Easter egg to be noticed or ignored.

I don't understand security footage having a professional editor before it is reviewed.

Didn't Gremlins 2 do that as well?

Gremlins 2 had Leanard Maltin giving a bad review of the first Gremlins in it (before getting killed by the gremlins). But that movie was very self aware.

Spaceballs did it too IIRC.
Yes, but that was definitely self aware.

And I still want a Spaceballs: The Flamethrower!

I'm not even sure Beastmaster 2 is enough OF a movie to be self-aware.

I'm sorry, I know it's getting off-topic, but I was very disappointed by that movie long before I even knew MST3K existed, having grown up watching the original and how much better it was.

What I'm saying is, I need to watch Hobgoblins myself.

As I recall, it was just them going by a theater marquee with the movie title on it, right? Something like that just seems like a joke, just silly for the sake of silly. And like the rest of the humor in that movie, it doesn't work.

Let's not forget the cameo of that frog thing in Rollergator!
