I just donated, even though they had already well surpassed their goal. Boy that went fast.

Are they thinking deep strategy on this? It would be a shame if Lionsgate saw how much the Kickstarter earned and then said "What a coincidence, that's the exact amount of money we want." It would turn public delight with Rifftrax into a windfall for the makers of Twilight, for crying out loud.

If I had a vote (and I don't), I'd rather have three movies further down the list get LiveRiffed for the same price. But then the donors primarily itching to see Twilight would have a valid complaint.

How fast did they actually reach their goal of 55k? Less than hour? Less than half an hour?

85 minutes. And to Tim's point, that is worrying.

Why is that bad?

Because who wants to give Liosgate extra money for making a crappy movie.  I hope extra money from my pledge just goes to the RiffTrax crew.

Apparently we do. If we wanna see this done, we gotta do what we gotta do. And to be perfectly honest, they would be entirely justified in asking for the whole pot. Despite what we think of the movie, they own it, they spent millions of dollars making it, and we are asking kind permission to rip it to shreds. ;) Just because they made a crappy movies doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to make a profit off of it if people are willing to pay. And you can't say we aren't. The pot is well over 90k in 5 hours. In that respect, we're not really all that different from fans of the books who fell over themselves to see these movies in theatres. Our motivations are just different.

Not trying to be a dick. Just sayin'.

Lionsgate has already made MILLIONS off of the movie. I don't think that a couple hundred thousand dollars is really going to be that much more for them in the grand scheme of things.

Hell, they can have it all if they want, if it means that we'll be able to watch it live ... Rifftrax will get the ticket sales (I mean, Twilight will bring MANY more people to the theaters than House on Haunted Hill or even Manos) and it'd be contigent on getting DVD sales for the live event.

I donated because, what the hell .. for 10 bucks I'm getting 3 shorts PLUS whatever movie they end up doing. I mean, Mario Bros. or THE ROOM perhaps? Hell, Tommy would HAVE to show up and let them do it for 200k, don't you think? I"m sure that you could get many of the principal cast there as well for some nice cake (or a donation to a cat shelter in "Lisa's" case) and THAT would be a cause for throwing a football around!

PS. They are less than 1k to breaking 100k! Even more impressive is that ALL the big time extras are already accounted for and sold out. While it means that the totals will slowly build up until the deadline, there should be a lot of people that take the 10-30 dollar plans for the live show and/or shorts.

Actually, I think you're just getting the shorts for $10.

I just donated. I can't believe over 102K already. Thanks for taking my suggestion about redoing MR. B Natural. I can't wait. Are they riffing the complete MR.B or just the condensed version that MST3k did? I hope its the full one.

KidFlash

I would assume that it would be the full version, like Manos.
