Doctor Who?

Wow, ok, so Avatar will overtake Titanic's domestic box office by the end of the month apparently. I certainly take back my comments about it not being about to beat Titanic's Box Office overall. Looks like it will do it.

Well i heard that fox plans to keep it in theaters until may so that may play into it as well.

While I am pleased for this to overtake Titanic, am I the only one sad to see Fox Studios making a LOT of money on this? Considering how awful everything else is they make (and this was pretty bad too, just great in terms of visuals) I was hoping the studio would crash and burn. Like how it looks like Weinstein Company will die a much deserved death soon.

I think Fox has a better output right now then some of the other studios.  I mean  their bad movies are better then Transformers and G.I.Joe.

You are right about that.

Whenever anyone brings up the new Transformers, I just imagine myself going into a "I'll kill you all" waving a gun around rant like the Nostalgia Critic over the Bat Credit Card.

True, but it's going to lose all (or most) of its 3D screens in March to Alice in Wonderland. And that may give it a big drop, since at least a fair portion of the overall gross is 3D based.

Really... Best Picture??

It was fun and all but, best picture, best director?? I don't think so.

Hey Golden Globes - "I see you"... don't know what the hell constitutes a great film.

They just gave Robert Downey, Jr. "Best Actor" for Sherlock Holmes.  Go figure.

With everything going on onscreen, I do believe he deserves the best director award. As for best picture... come on.

In terms of shear amount of effort put forth, yeah, Cameron definitely deserves it. But there's a mark of quality in the picture that the director is responsible for, so I'm not so sure he deserves the actual award in the end. Plus, he's already got his directing accolades out the ying-yang. Let someone else have it.

C'mon.  You can't be that surprised.  It was either "Avatar" or "Hurt Locker".  Don't worry though.  This gives "Hurt Locker" a much stronger pull for the Best Pic Oscar.

Based on what the Golden Globes are about - 85 or so critics who believe they predict the Oscars - I can live with this getting Best Picture.  Still scratching my head that Nine is up for anything at all (everything I'm reading about it says it sucks) and  I'm more upset about The Hangover beating 500 Days of Summer, actually.

The other films nominated here are more likely to win Oscars because The Academy still like to believe that they're about "Art" and not box office.   I can see a film like Precious winning an Oscar but not a Golden Globe.  Plus, Cameron winning Best Picture here gives the Oscar voters the excuse to give it to something else.

So when do they announce the Oscar nominations?

Because Girmar bought one of them?
