I think what everyone wants to know is will there be a gratuitous tentacle sex  scene in the this edition! We all know that is why everyone wants to run out and buy the dvd.

If the movie can work at a junior high level of sophistication... so can I.  :)

Finally saw Avatar yesterday since our local Imax is associated with a museum which rarely gets first-run movies.  They only got Avatar a week ago.   I'm glad I waited to see it this way.  It's all about the spectacle with this movie and for me this is the only way to see Avatar.  It's going to seem so tiny to watch this on tv.
"Unobtanium"  strikes me as a word that went into the first draft of the script and nobody would tell Cameron how stupid it was.   From the first time I heard it, I've always thought about "upsadasium" from Rocky and Bullwinkle so it really seemed appropriate after I saw the floating mountains.  I'm also thinking James Cameron must have been a Yes fan and really enjoyed those Roger Dean album covers.
But this isn't anything I'll be buying on DVD.

How would you feel if it wasn't James Cameron but aerospace engineers that first invented the term?

From IMDb's trivia page:
"Unobtainium" is a humorous term used mainly in the aerospace industry. It describes a material that is perfect for an application, but does not exist, is extremely expensive, or violates the laws of physics. Its chemical symbol is Uo. "Unobtainium" is also a general concept term used by sci-fi enthusiasts for any fictional substance that is needed to build a certain device that is crucial to the plot of a sci-fi story. "Unobtainium" is featured in the movie The Core (2003), where the earth-boring vessel called the "Virgil" has a hull made from unobtainium to help it withstand the massive pressures inside the Earth's core. "Unobtainium" is also an anti-gravity element in the online multi-player video game "Skyrates."

I hear ya tho.  I love the movie and still thought they could've either chosen a better word or a line explaining where it originally came from.

Thanks for the info.  I've never heard that before, never saw "The Core" ; using the term would be like any suspense writer/director actually using the word "mcguffin" in their Hitchcock pastiche.  It just calls attention to its unimportance.
I put "Battle for Terra" back on my Netflix queue to watch again, just to compare it to Avatar.
