I can out of the movie feeling happy that i had had a pretty good time watching an amazing looking movie.  i don't know what is up with those people.

I came out of the movie with my eyes hurting just a little.  But then again I've always had a problem with depth perception.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

best.... ORIGINAL... screenplay?!

Wow... the writers guild has done as much for movies as the teachers union has done for education...

I don't necessarily think it was bad, I just object to the term "original" being applied to it.

While I too wouldn't go so far as to call it bad, it was definitely the weakest part of the movie. It was a pretty generic script full of a lot of generic, giggle-worthy, and occasionally outright terrible lines.

When it comes to awards i think all that means is that it was not based on a book,Tv show,or another film. and that is true.  I don't think it has a chance of winning.

If I didn't know better, I'd think this was straight out of The Onion!

In a year or two, ScottH will swear this never happened.

Well, I know you know that they mean "original" only in that it wasn't taken from a book or some other source only, right?

Yea, their definition of "original" is fairly narrow.  As long as it's not an adaptation of one book or one show or one previous movie it's called that.  So you can grab huge chunks of a few movies and books, throw them together and still call it original as far as the awards are concerned.

I sure hope it doesn't win anything for the story or writing, should get tons for visual effects.

Shouldn't win for music either, it's so rare for me not to remember any music from a movie....

Now best picture, that's a tough one....  Hard to argue with box office, and you could say this movie is all about the visuals, so in that sense it's best.

I ticket only costs $7.50 where I live now Avatar cost $10.00 and i thought that was kind of steep.  I'm glad i don't live in new York.  Those theaters should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm willing to pay those ticket prices in NYC (and by NYC both APGIL and I mean Manhattan, I've never been to a theater in the other boroughs) because the theaters are so much better than back home in Pennsylvania. The sound and the picture are about as state of the art as you can get, and it makes for a better movie-going experience.

My theater has good picture and sound.  Granted I can't compare it to a theater in the big city because have never been to one but I think it's good.  Hey am I the only one who is glad film projectors are going the way of the dodo?  I don't think I could go back to watching movies with random spots and scratches popping up on the screen.

I don't know why people are making such a big deal over the story, this wouldn't be the first time sci-fi ripped off other stories.  I mean Forbidden Planet Star Wars spring to mind and I am sure I could think of more.  It's not like it has done anything that Sci-fi movies haven't been doing since the 50s.

I'd be surprised if it beats titanic, I don't think it has that sort of legs, but I guess we will see. I want to see it again, but taking friends with me who haven't seen it yet, just haven't been able to arrange anything yet.
