I'd just like to point this out before any more noms get announced.

No, "Dances With Wolves" was not the first book nor film to employ the same storyline as "Avatar".  And in case you've forgotten, DWW also won Best Directing and Picture.  Was "Goodfellas" robbed?  Sure.  All I'm saying is... don't freak out about the noms on Feb 2.

Relaxing Dragon

Oh, Avatar's a lock for all the Technical Awards, Director, and Picture. It's made too much money and is too generally liked for anything else. I simply don't believe it should be getting any kudos or nominations or awards for the writing or acting, since it was ranging from average to sub par on both accounts.

The same thing was said about "Dark Knight", remember?  Then again, I've heard tell that foreign audiences didn't like it anywhere near as much as Americans did.  This is sorta the reverse this time, huh?

Yeah, as much as I love the movie, I'm kinda hoping I don't see any acting noms.  I'll be glad that it'll add it to its nom count but that's it.  I wish I knew more about writing to understand why it got nominated by the WGA.  It can't be wholly political.

Doctor Who?

Well I will say this.  Yes the script was very weak but pretty much any story you tell today is going to be a rip off of an older story so I don't think it pays to get too worked up over a story being a rip off.  Original stories are very rare these days,we have just been telling stories for too long.

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

And another even bigger joke:

"Titanic" beat "L.A. Confidential", "As Good As It Gets", and "Good Will Hunting"  Arrrgggg.....

Let's see, 2 great movies, "Good Will Hunting" was OK, and the one with terrible story, but great special effects wins due to box office......

And having ten movies vying for the Best Picture Oscar this year is only strengthening Avatar's chances of winning this year.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

10?  Yea, that will spread the votes around and the one with the biggest box office total will probably win.

Has there ever been a year with more than 3 or 4 good movies?  I can't think of one...

Doctor Who?

Well most critics make top ten lists so I can see why they changed it to ten.  The nomintations are now their own top ten list.  I think if they are going to do ten they should get rid of best animated film and best foreign film and just have everything competing for the top place from the same list.

BathTub

Wow, ok, so Avatar will overtake Titanic's domestic box office by the end of the month apparently. I certainly take back my comments about it not being about to beat Titanic's Box Office overall. Looks like it will do it.

Pak-Man

Late to the party but I finally watched Avatar tonight. I liked it. I don't think it's quite as groundbreaking as it was made out to be, and no the story's nothing new, but I thought it was really well-told, and good storytelling is what movies are all about for me. I think the one-dimensional career-military broadly-stereotyped dude was a weak antagonist, but I did like the way the story unfolded.
