That trailer is pretty cool.  Still a little worried that there's too much in the movie, but it looks like they might have the action quotient at the right level this time.

Cool looking preview.  I think Whiplash is a pretty forgettable villain in the comics, but at the same time that means he's enough of a blank slate that something interesting can be done with him.  Personally, I think that if the story is going where I'm thinking (especially with Black Widow involved) Hawkeye might have been a better choice of villain (since that's how he started in the comics).  Still, I'm expecting the REAL villain will be someone like Justin Hammer or Sunset Bain.  Which is to say another industrialist or sinister politician/government agent, who wants to get his hands on the tech.  While I'm sure that this film will be good, I'm hoping the third and final (please) one will be a mix of the armor wars, Mandarin and (if it's not covered in this film) his struggle with alcoholism.

You know, the title of this thread needs to be updated I think.

Another industrialist trying to steal the technology was pretty much the last movie.

Dude, industrialist villains are Iron Man's bread and butter.  It's like saying "but Batman's already fought a crazy by bent on tainting the water supply".

Generally the Iron Man villains with powers are spies or heavies and rarely masterminds themselves.

Except of course for the Mandarin.

Yeah, I know that.  Doesn't mean we should have to sit through another movie with essentially the same bad guy.

Anyways, I share mrbasehart's concern in that this will be mostly a set-up movie for The Avengers.

Hulk and Iron-Man had basically the same villian and they both seemed world's apart to me,  I'd assume since War Machine will probably be the villian in 3 they'll skip it in this one

War Machine the villain? C'mon, have you never read a team-up comic? They have their differences, knock themselves around a bit, earn a newfound respect for each other, then join forces to pound the real baddie.

I just hope Tony wins the day by outsmarting the villain rather than just pummeling him into the asphalt. My only real complaint about the first movie was that the Iron Man Vs Iron Monger knockdown dragout went on longer than it needed to. When Stane's armor iced up and he plummeted to the ground, that should've been it. Stark wins because he figured that out already. No 'splosions necessary.

I can see some conflict between War Machine and Iron Man in the third movie, especially if they do the alcoholic Tony story.  I can see them doing some version of The Mandarin, but adapting the character to fit in the technological based rogues gallery.  The question is: will the Avengers figure at all into that story?

I have to disagree. I wised the Ironman vs. Iron Monger battle was a little longer. It was 100 times more exciting that the Robot on robot battles in Transformers. And you could tell the difference between the two and what was going on as well.

I cannot argue with that.

Dear Paramount, we would like to see Iron Man beat the shit out of Skids and Mudflap, please.

Not worth seeing those two again, even if it's to see them fed into a crusher.

Couldn't agree more.

If Iron Man pounded the shit out of those two it would be called a hate crime, Rhodey would have to do it with War Machine.

Are you referring to those Autobots in Revenge? Still can't see why they didn't use established twin characters, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker since thaey did add one of them into the cast of Autobots.

That would mean knowing something of the history of a franchise you're turning into a movie.  That's not required anymore.

.....aka sloppiness? It would figure they'd use Sideswipe but totally fail to realize instead of creating two useless characters, they could have just had one more rendered character in Sunstreaker and just paired him up with Sideswipe. But we're digressing here! The wonderful thing I like about Jon Favreau's approach to mechanized creations is that he relies on practical effects and uses CGI to augment them. I'd think it better to the animator to see a tangible, lit costume or model to base their CGI on.
