Nice, where was the quote from?

Examiner.com.  I'd seen a bunch of articles about it, but it just happened to be the first one to pop up when I Googled.  Didn't notice the "could of" until Im pointed it out.  Now it hurts my soul too.

In suck-confirming news, the movie's not being screened for critics before its release.

Odd.  I have tickets for a screening tonight. (Not a critic, BTW, but sometimes they open the screenings up for the public.)

Wait....know I saw a quote in the ads from Fat Harry at AICN about how great this movie is....

Oh yeah....he's not a critic, he's a suck-up.   ;)
Devin from CHUD liked it, too. Love him or hate him, he's at least a bit more repectable than Harry*.

*I actually really like Harry's reviews, I just can't base anything on them alone.
Like his reviews or not, how do you ever trust a movie reviewer who claimed he saw a bootleg of SW: The Phantom Menace in a hotel room - gushing and puking about how wonderful it was - only to turn around and have to admit to the FBI that he'd made it all up when they came to investigate the leak?

Even if it was true....he liked Phantom Menace?!?!?!?

:D

You would think the FBI would have better things to spend our tax dollars on.  I don't know which is sadder him doing that or the fact that a branch of the government spend time and money on one guy getting a copy.

And he liked Godzilla 1998, too. Harry's just a big nerd like the rest of us (well bigger than the rest of us) who happens to have carved out a niche for himself that allows for all the best and worst nerd tendencies to run wild and totally unchecked. He still knows a LOT about film, for that, and his enthusiasm, I respect him.

And there were lots of Godzilla 1998 ads on his site.  He likes anything and everything for which the studios will buy a banner ad on his website and/or send him on a "press junket" - period.  He's a whore. And a "cut-rate one" at that.

Well, it was one guy getting a copy before the release to the theaters.  And if one could get out.....

Yeah, that is what my grandparents said about that nosey Elliot Ness and his band of untouchables when they interfered with their rum running activities.....

I, for one.  Am glad it's getting positive reviews.  ;D

Well people have been killed by home made rum and most moonshiners have mob ties, when was the last time someone was killed by a bootlegged movie.

Update: The screening did go on, but all the tickets were snagged 90 minutes before show time. Since I got there 60 minutes before the show, no tix for me. Boo-hoo. I'll console myself by watching Vin and Paul drive around.

I think I have read that "The Room" has claimed a few victims.....   ;)

QuoteIt's not going to show once and then close.  You can actually watch it at a normal hour.

Actually, in my case, no. My schedule for the next week is:

1) The showing Thursday night.
2) Visiting Grandma (who, surprisingly for an 87-year-old woman, has no interest in GI Joe) Friday-Monday.
3) Going to the free showing of The Magnificent Seven in Bryant Park Monday evening.
4) My birthday, including birthday dinner, Tuesday.

Somewhere in the middle of this, I have to write a review of GI Joe for the blog and the podcast, which records Sunday afternoon. Actually, writing it won't be the problem per se... it will more be submitting it. Grandma (again, surprisingly for an 87-year-old woman) has chosen not to invest in internet service (did I mention she still has a standalone 8-track player in the living room?), which will leave me with a Saturday assignment of wandering around Flatbush with my EeePC looking for an unsecured wireless network.

So yeah... Thursday at midnight.

Saw G.I. Joe at the midnight showing last night. Stayed up till 6AM writing a review for my blog.

I can't wait to have my youth destroyed by this movie!

Please tell me Mindbender says "Hello.... I'm (whatever his first name is)"

No you get the Doctor character saying "Dr. Mindebender and I...." One name drop reference..

It was pretty bad. It wasn't really GI Joe, but more of generic action flick.

The CGI was god awful at times. TF: ROTF made me believe there were giant robots on screen, but this movie couldn't convince me that helicopters were there on screen. That is just sad.

Destro was OK, but the mask was just horrible. Let paint you with blue paint then cgi it silver. It comes off as unconvincing at best and laughable at its worst.

Doctor was decent as his own character but his costume change at he end just looked so stupid yet again. Any of the classic looks would have looked fantastic on screen.

The Zartan story was obvious and came as no surprise at the end.

I did like bits and pieces. Nice to see the Breaker bubblegum nod, and I liked Scarlet's motorcycle outfit. That reminded me a bit of her original costume.

The accelerator suits were kinda stupid. The paris chase was pretty good and snake eyes kicks ass.

The adventures of Lil' Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow was pretty good. Found two 9 year old kids kicking the shit out of each other more interesting than the other parts of the movie.

Overall it is just a mediocre film.. a 5/10.. I may get it on DVD because I expect there to be a Rifftrax of it.

'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" is a 118-minute film with sequences involving the faces and other body parts of human beings. It is sure to be enjoyed by those whose movie appreciation is defined by the ability to discern that moving pictures and sound are being employed to depict violence. Nevertheless, it is better than "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
