The quote by Joel "Lowest Common Denominator' Silver is especially grating to me.
You mean the producer of Hudson Hawk, The Last Boy Scout, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, The Matrix and Xanadu?  Why would you call him that?   :D

QuoteThey already made this. It's called League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Holmes would have no part of it.

Smart Holmes.

The Jeremy Brett version got that so right.  Love David Burke!

Doctor Who?

Yeah that is one of the reasons I love that versionit's just ever movie version gets it wrong I'm glad to see at least they are getting right,it's giving me a little bit of hope for his movie.

I liked the Rupert Everett one done for the BBC a couple of years ago.  A pity they never followed up on it.

First trailer for the movie is out.

Looks like this will be coasting on Robert Downey, Jr.'s immense charm which is fine by me.  I'm getting a Roger Moore vibe from RDJ in this one.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Watson was pretty prissy in Young Sherlock Holmes.  But I guess you can just chalk that up to youth.  He hadn't been in the service yet.

Right but given that I doubt that winnowy fatbody Watson would grow up to be , to be, that. :-\

Ah well it's just the trailer, albeit not a good one, the film might be better.

I'd say "sinking or swimming" rather than coasting.

Get the feeling that Ritchie is going for a Holmes that reflects the reality of Victorian life rather than the version that Conan Doyle presented (his stories were written at that time after all and had to be presentable for a respectable publication). Although don't know if the fans will like that. I think they like the world that his stories present.

But then since everyone - even people you'd think would be old enough to understand the value of holding on to the past - seem to feel that everything is disposable and fans be damned then why not completely remake Sherlock Holmes?

Oooh, that's even better.  Much more appropriate.
