One of my favourite podcasts THE FLOP HOUSE did an episode on it and apparently they largely share a lot of the reasons I think it's mostly dull to bad but I'm not sure if that'll make me feel better or more annoyed.

One thing that made me feel better about it was thinking about how much I hated Solo, therefore elevating this film :P

ScottotD

I found Solo kind a bland sci-fi action with Donald Glover and Woody Harrison which was what I was expecting from Ron Howard

The laziness, exploitation and laundry list of other issues (some of which may just be based on my perception) made ROS way worse to me after how much I love The Last Jedi

Finn just ran around yelling Rey's name and teased a possible relationship with the other black person besides Lando to have a speaking role in the whole movie

Are you referring to when

Darth Geek

It doesn't make sense that Finn would want to tell Rey he was force sensitive then. First of all, it wouldn't be something he keeps a secret to the others. And second it wouldn't be something that would be important to tell her when he thought they were going to die.

Pak-Man

Watching it the second time with that context makes a lot of lines make more sense. The whole exchange with Poe about how he doesn't know what Rey's going through (Oh, and you do? As a matter of fact...) and other tidbits here and there indicate that he's totally force-sensitive.

Anyway, if we follow the original Jedi code, Rey's not supposed to get romantically entangled with anyone. That's how Vaders are made.

Does this mean the Star Wars universe could possibly connect with Earth in our time?

No.

No.

I agree that it was hinted at throughout the film, but I agree with Darth that it doesn't make sense to feel the need to declare it as you think you're all about to die.

No, he's talking about how they seemed to be suggesting Finn and Jannah might get together.

Yeah, the Jannah character seemed shoehorned in by the studio. An obligatory love interest of the same race to appease the racist backlash at Finn and Rey's potential romance. Also, having a whole bunch of other storm troopers that left the Empire makes Finn's backstory a lot less special.

I did like the idea of her and her people's story - But they didn't do anything interesting with it. Maybe they will later, or maybe it's all on the cutting room floor.

I didn't get "love interest" at all from Finn and Jannah. Can't people have platonic relationships in movies anymore?

I'm surprised to hear you didn't read it that way. Apparently the actors deliberately played it that way:

QuoteOne thing she can comfortably talk about is Jannah's bond with Finn, which might come across as romantic to plenty of viewers. That's the intent, Ackie says.

"I felt like it was maybe a dating kind of vibe," Ackie says of the characters' relationship, adding that she and Boyega would "try and push it on set" to see how far much they could toy with their characters' chemistry.

"There is an energy, I think," Ackie said."Also, like, we need to see Finn with someone, man! This man's been bandied around. He needs to be loving on someone."
