Yeah, Saul Zaentz sued New Line in 2004 and again in December. NLC are crooks.

Saul Zaentz also sued John Fogerty for having solo recordings that sounded "too much" like CCR, whose catalog Zaentz owns lock, stock and barrel. Maybe he's not the best example for denigrating the character of New Line.

Thank you Isaac for giving me invitation to post this. Basically a nice self contained example of how Isaac refuses to let the facts get in the way of his rabid rantings. I recommend people read the whole thread but here is the gist of it.

Lord knows the Wachowskis (The Matrix) sure as hell did in record time.

I'm sorry, but...The Matrix trilogy was a hell of a lot better than Peter Jackson's entire filmography combined. The Wachowskis always knew how to make a great film. Jackson NEVER knew how to make a great film.

I'm genuinely sorry if i misjudge, but you have to understand, the position that you take on this issue is so isolated and to the extreme that I have trouble reading your post and believeing  it to be anything but an attempt to pick a fight. A good example, I've already mentioned that the lawsuit was older than the current Hobbit mess, but Isaac chooses to ignore that.

issaac its time you came to terms with what is reality. 

you hate jackson (its an irrational hate deal with that too) because you loved jrr tolkeins books and other middle earth lore, and felt jacksons films didnt live up to what you wanted.  As such have blamed for all sorts of irrational things. 

Wether or not jackson is being greedy cant be argued we simply dont KNOW enough, we can at best speculate. 

Further with more people making similar claims to what jackson has said seemed to back up his side.   

all these things are apparent to most people, as such most people take them as fact, which is essentially all we can do.  either deal with this reality or dont, but quit acting as if the REST of the planet is where the problem is.

If I hadn't gotten paid for working on a film, I would not have done the damn commentaries for the DVD editions, the interviews, the various promotional gigs, etc. Jackson's claims are seriously flawed. You recognize this fact, yet you still claim that I'm full of shit because this does not correspond with your reality, because you love him and his films so much. Separate the movies from the man. Back before the movies were released, he initially claimed not to have seen the previous adaptation, then said that he saw it, but it didn't motivate him to go out and read the books, and then went around and changed his story once more, saying that he loved the previous adaptation and that it inspired him to go out and read the books. Well lenord Nimoy waited ten years before he finally filed a lawsuit against Paromout for use his image as Mr.Spock with out paying him,You have to remember that this was all just a few years ago and it's based on the huge profits that Lord of the Rings made.

If I had to guess I would say

1)He was hoping to work it out with out going to court(Believe that that is a pain the neck it take up a lot of your time and money so you don't want to do it right away)

2)He was waiting for all the profits from tickets and DvD sale worldwide to come in so he would know how much money he was asking for

and

3)Peter Jackson didn't see why he should punish the fans for something new Line did so he still did the DvD.

Or

4)He still had to do the DvD or he would be breaking contract as well,remember the first 4 DvD set came out before this issue came up.

Also about him seeing the old Lord of the Rings movies.  Maybe you will understand this when you are a little older but I have trouble remembering when I first read Sherlock Holmes or why I read it and that is my favorite set of books,and I am only 22!!

I can understand how in all the interviews he does Jackson may have gotten mixed up about if he had seen a movie that he only saw once 30 years ago.  it's hard to remember everything that has ever happened to you in order.
