So what have we learned from Starship Troopers?

Thrifty Version II

I learned that in a supposedly top notch military, command will place dozens of ships in a completely defenseless formation in orbit above a planet full of powerful anti-air defenses.

Darth Geek

I learned what they concentrated so much on Jake Busey's big teeth, they apparently missed HIS BART SIMPSON HAIR!

I did not learn why her copilot/boyfriend guy gave her the knife and just let the brain bug suck out his brain, rather than just cut the probe himself.

Brilliant military strategy consists of standing in a circle and unloading all your ammo at the targets in the center. Perfectly safe!

KidFlash

I learned that Mike and Bridget have a very strange marriage.

Darth Geek

I learned that in the FAR FUTURE they still use whipping as a punishment.

I didn't actually go to the show, but here's what I've learned from the movie.

Creatures that can hurl an asteroid from one side of the galaxy to the other with pinpoint accuracy to hit a moving target, that is revolving around a star, which is itself circling the galaxy, without so much as a slide rule. Yeah, you might not want to underestimate them. And how they manage to get it there in less than a 100 million years anyway?

But hell, just send all your forces directly to their homeworld, apparently without even doing any recon on the place. Then send infantry, mostly just recruited, to take control of an entire planet of creatures that vastly outmatch your infantry. How could that go badly?

Plan 2, understand your enemy. Well there's your problem. Plan 1 forgot to take into account a key concept of actually having a plan.

Also, why send ground forces at all. When dealing with aliens, nuke them from orbit. Which incidentally is exactly what they did do at the end of the third movie.

Trekker4747

I learned that Nashville has a road/highway system a lot like a dropped plate of spaghetti.

I also learned that Kevin has an odd sense of timing for Gorilla-Grams.

BBQ Platypus

I learned that the pilot's chair of a Federation starship apparently doubles as a toilet.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I learned that much like ninjas, the fewer soldiers firing at the bugs, the easier it is to kill them.

Also, I learned that past future tech can't detect a large rock hurtling towards a ship until it is in visual range. And that it is impossible to evade before imminent collision.

Yeah, there's a whole series of em... and an animated one too, I believe? My friend has them all.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

They're like roaches.

There's 3 movies & a bunch of animated ones. 8 or 9 of them I think. They swapped out "Starship Troopers" for "Roughnecks" in a bunch of the titles.

Their entire space fleet was comprised of slow moving battle cruisers with absolutely no shielding.  Did those things even have weapons?  Or were they just giant transports?
