By the way, I checked out the PS Productions riff of this movie a year or two ago and it was HILARIOUS. If you haven't already, it's definitely worth picking up when you pick up the Rifftrax version.

So, those of us who do own the Director's cut and no other edition will have to rent the theatrical edition to enjoy this.

well at least it is a cheap, you can buy the pack with Star Trek's 2-4 for about $12-$15 online.

Starman!

My library has the director's cut. Great.

Although I think the other library I sometimes go to has the theatrical version....on VHS!!!  :o

Conor

The riff will be available for both versions.

Excellent! The question is, what version will it work with? There is the original DVD version and then there is the director's cut version which is a few minutes longer that was released a couple years later. I have the director's cut edition.

Yes, I'd also like to know what version of Wrath of Khan I need to get to check out this riff. Any word on what DVDs are compatible with it yet?

They tend do the version that's currently in print & can be easily bought. In this case, the 2009 reissue is the 112-minute theatrical version. All the 2009 "Original Motion Picture Collection" DVDs have been released in their original theatrical versions (with new bonus features).
Spoiler
(no DVD cover is complete without a Harry Knowles endorsement)
This is also the version available via Netflix, which is apparently a major deciding factor for them.

Hah, it's the other way round with Blockbuster-By-Mail, they tend to carry the 2-Disc Collector's Editions. They don't update their stock much anymore if a newer edition comes out. (If you're lucky, you can find some of the 2-Disc DVDs used at Blockbusters' closeout locations, many whose last day is today, the 10th. I picked up a used 2-disc copy of First Contact last week for $3.)

Not to mention, the theatrical versions are the ones that were released on Blu-ray in 2009 in "The Original Motion Picture Collection" box set. As far as I know, the extended director's versions are not out on Blu-ray. http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/startrekfilmsbd.php

Glad you brought this up. Yes, in March 2011 they came out with a 2-disc double feature of Star Trek 2 & Star Trek 4 which is the exact same price as buying Star Trek 2 on its own. Product search:http://www.google.com/search?q=097361435749&tbs=shop%3A1&aq=f

And you can see in the image below that these have new audio commentaries & bonus features.
Spoiler
Nicholas Meyer has someone to talk to this time. But who the hell are these people replacing Nimoy & Shatner for IV's commentary?

"Pavel Chekov's Screen Moments", I'm sure Kevin will love that featurette.  :D

That's all we need to know, end of story. I think I better make your quote larger so more people will see it:

We recorded the riff to the directors cut, so I guess you get more riffing for your dollar if you watch that.  We'll just have to edit stuff down in order to fit it to the shorter version.  Hope that doesn't eliminate any running jokes...

I know this has become a dreary cliche over the last several weeks, something that nobody but the most hapless of losers says in any kind of serious way.  But it is the only word to fit this revelation.

WINNING!!!

Luckily I still had this movie backed up on my XP computer using Pinnacle Studio 9,4 from back when they riffed it so all I have to do is substitute the RiffTrax mp3 in place of it! WOOT!!

Glad I did still have this backed up cause I was testing Pinnacle Studio 14 with Windows 7 and it kept throwing error messages during the 'Import' process from the burned DVD! :-\
That's not a promising sign.. :scared:

...and there was much rejoicing. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to buy another copy since I've had a giant box set of those big two disc directors cut editions of all 10 PA Trek movies for years (Pre-Abrams). It was awesome enough that I finally got a use out of Star Trek 5 when I found Rifftrax and for Star Trek 1 when I started riffing (/shamelessplug). Also I'll second the recommendation for PS Productions Wrath of Khan riff, I'll be watching it tonight to get ready for the Rifftrax release (/deservedplugforafriend).

I also recomment PS Productions version as a good first course to the "official" Rifftrax.

Are they paying you to promote their iRiff (Which is very funny by the way..)?? :o

Starman!

I have a random Rifftrax Star Trek question....do the riffs for V, VI, and Generations work with the 1 disc DVDs? If I remember correctly, those are the ones my local library has for those movies.
