Not to defend Twilight, but why is Romeo and Juliet that much better?

It's not, really.  I hate "romances" where the couple doesn't end up together.  If I want to see romance gone wrong I'll look in the fucking mirror. LOL  Movies are supposed to be fantasies fulfilled.

Really?

Because 99% of all Romance movies are all peppy films where the couple ALWAYS ends up together. That is what makes them so boring. That is what I loved about Romeo and Juliet. It's moral was "if you are a douche bag, you cannot have nice things". So in a sense, it's the Anti-Twilight. Wish people in Israel and Palestine read those books, they might learn something...
I always thought the moral of Romeo & Juliet was about the danger of manipulative parents. Also, the importance of knowing CPR. Pretty ahead of his time on that one.

:D

Oh, and "always carry an ipecac".
You mean "aalways carry a copy of Taming of the Shrew"? How meta.

Yeah, but like I said, all I have to do is remember my own life to watch thrilling romances go very, very WRONG.  LMFAO  I want some damn fantasy romance like they actually stay together.

John Irving said it best though.  Since every romance ever sooner or later ends in either death or a breakup, the key to a good romance is knowing when to end the story.

I learned it is possible to tell a story about vampires and werewolves and make it the more boring than painting your fence.

Between this and that little bastard Tom Sawyer tricking me, it has not been a good week.

I learned that when scoring a scene of a family having to restrain someone's bloodlust, having the music sound like the intro to Wall of Voodoo's Mexican Radio is not the best choice to establish tension.

I learned that if your fiance has an uncontrollable temper and permantly scars your face in a moment of inexplicable rage, you should stay together. Because deep down he loves you.

And when the guy who knows he has the potential of that same kind of rage and wants to protect the girl he cares for from being injured by him, he's portrayed as a loser and possibly a wimp.....

BTW, we're three movies in, Bella keeps trying to have sex with Edward and yet the subject of necrophilia still hasn't come up.

Considering how shallow and vapid she is, I'm pretty sure Bella is dead inside.

In fact - I tuned past Twilight on Showtime this morning during the "confrontation" in the woods - and I'm still wondering why Edward isn't turned off by her after he tells her that he's killed people and she has zero problem with it.  In fact, other than her smell and that she's so willing to subjugate her life for her sake what does he see in her anyway?

Bella's just another "Vampire Hag" like that receptionist in Italy.

And speaking of which, why is it so "dangerous" for Bella to still be human at this point in the movies and yet the Volturi have their own live human "pet" receptionist.  Amazingly convenient that she spoke English, huh?  And an American on top of it.

It's because he can't read her mind that he is attracted to her. Which is itself a shallow reason, since it has nothing to do with personality compatability or anything. But as Spoony put it: "Maybe he can and there aint anything there. Like a bean rolling around in a sald bowl." In which case Edward should move to Hollywood because there are LOTS of women there like that (and hotter than Bella). And they probably wouldn't be bothered by his sparkling. They'd probably just think he was an extra on a gay TV show or something.

Why travel?  Looked like there was good crop of airheads right there in that school.

I have learned that my vampire boyfriend doesn't seem to care that a vampire was about to kill me last he saw and left me for dead (no copyright infringement meant from the XBox 360 game), however for some odd reason when he thought I was dead from throwing myself off an icy cliff decided to kill himself, which is baffling in and of itself since he really isn't alive.

Perhaps also I should practice having sex with a popsicle since I imagine having sex with said vampire boyfriend will probably be similar. Can you imagine? She also doesn't seem to mind laying on him and sleeping on him which is also probably similar to sleeping on a block of ice nevermind the fact that he killed and blah blah all that other stuff.

I think people covered a lot of the other stuff. Sorry I was late on the action, but this is a good thread!
