The optimist in me just keeps saying that this can't be worse than Transformers 2.
The optimist in you needs to see an optometrist.

Aside from the still way overly complicated robot designs, the trailer looks good. As in, it doesn't have quick hyperactive cuts, there is not crappy humor or bad overacting. No Shia Lebouf at all, which is great. In other words, it looks good because it doesn't look like a Michael Bay movie!

I don't know what I should be feeling about that trailer. It wasn't indicative of an absolute mess so it might indicate that this movie may not be as bad as the others. On one hand a movie that won't cause me to hurl insults at it for ruining my childhood memories is good, but  yet an utter mess pf a movie makes for more entertaining Riffing fodder.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Oh I have no doubt it will be good riffing fodder. Even if it does turn out to be good, or at least guilty pleasure fun, it's still robots fighing. That is inherantly silly and riffable.

i remember the trailer for the first movie made it look good too, don't judge this one by it's trailer.

So, with the third Transformers movie already having made more money than God, we're starting to hear nasty vicious icky rumors of a 4th film. But, with Michael Bay stepping down and Shia LaBeefstick moving on, who could ever save this money-printing machine of a movie?

Why, Steven Spielberg and Jason Statham of course:

Of course, these are both just rumors. But if Statham ends up taking the lead role and Spielberg ends up directing (which is about as likely as Statham getting an Oscar for Crank 3: Big Momma's Crankhouse, honestly), this would be the second Transformers film I'd actually look forward to seeing (the first one was the first one, when I was young and naive and before Michael Bay urinated all over my innocence).

Spielberg is obviously a great director, and Statham - well, he has more charisma than Shia, at least. Thoughts?
"Hey, you kids! Those boxes are for shipping! Not for creating a world of pure imagination!"

First change the robot designs! For fuck sake, I can even enjoy Dragon Wars as a guilty (ok, very guilty) pleasure, BECAUSE I CAN SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AND TELL ONE CHARACTER APART FROM ANOTHER! That is the single worst aspect of these Bayformer movies, because if I can't enjoy it on a purely dumb action movie level, then I am forced to think about all the other things they did wrong.

Russell

I enjoyed Dark of the moon probably more than either of the other two movies by a big margin.
I knew what to expect going in, I'm just happy that it was improved as much as it was. They
could have just said "Fuck the audience, they'll go see it either way,", but no, they actually made an
honest and very noticeable improvement. I think in all fairness, that's all we should have been
asking for.

Well said also get someone besides Spielberg to direct.  I think his last few movies prove he is past his prime when it comes to making good action movies.  You know I think someone like Del Tero(spelling?)or what's his name who did District nine would be good choices.  You need someone who knows how to do action but can bring real character to the robots and both of them have proven that they can get character out of non humans.

In a perfect world guys, we would get what we want all the time. Gawd... do you know
how much I'd love to see Chris Nolan's vision of The Transformers? It could be the
defining moment of the 80's... for the 2010's. But... unfortunately that's about as unrealistic
as I can get probably. :(
