Having watched it... I don't particularly get the appeal.  Nothing terrible about them, but they weren't terribly interesting to me, either.  But I could see them working better in silent films.

A quick look around seems to show it is one of their least liked films. Was it your first?

Yep.

Oh well. Looks like they've got better ones.
FINE

I'll keep that in mind.
Try some of their shorts. The Music Box is my personal favorite.

I didn't care for Laurel and Hardy, I somehow gravitated more towards the Marks brothers movies like Duck Soup and Horse Feathers.

You can see almost all of their films for free on YouTube. A fan site list all the links for their movies. You could binge watch them at home, or goof off at work watching them.

Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974)
I've read a bit about Samuel Peckinpah here and there over the years and his movies always sounded like movies I'd enjoy (despite not really liking most Westerns) but I've never made it around to watching any of his movies (other than "The Getaway") until this one. First thoughts were that it was beautifully shot (and it was throughout) but it took about 15 minutes or so before it drew me in. I'm not sure why as the plot is totally different and all of the characters are somewhat unlikeable, but in a lot of ways I saw it as the movie "Kill Bill" should have been but wasn't (and I really hated Kill Bill). Definitely made me want to check out more of Peckinpah's work

Thor Ranknrock (or whatever it was named)
After all the praise this got, I decided to watch this despite thinking the first 2 Thor movies were unwatchable un-riffed. My take-you put Micheal Bay in charge of a super hero movie and this is the crap you'd get. Give it a Queen soundtrack and it was Flash Gordon 1980 level camp and I despised campy 1980 Flash Gordon.

Is your tongue ok? I'm only asking because it seems like you have no taste.

I'm afraid I have to echo that sentiment. I don't care how much critical praise the likes of Logan and Wonder Woman got, Thor Ragnarok is not just the best Superhero film of 2017 but it's also one of the best damn movies I've watched since like.. heh, 2016 I guess. It was actually a lot of fun, the whole cast was great, I loved almost every moment of that film.

Tonight I managed to get my mom and dad to watch The Last Jedi. They loved it.

We rewatched Thor Ragnarok last night too - that movie is too good for this world.

I do slightly envy you. I wish I had no concept of what a Michael Bay movie was like too.

70's movie night tonight

Americathon (1979)
If Mel Brooks had had the idea for Idiocracy and made it instead of Robinhood Men in Tights at that point in his career, this likely would have been the result. Which is to say, a movie starring a whole bunch of 70s TV comedic actors with some ideas of things that could have been funny but weren't. Jay Leno cameo is perhaps the funniest thing Jay Leno every did and it's not in the least bit funny. John Ritter and Harry Keitel far less annoying than usual, but still not funny.

Cross of Iron (1977)
Second Sam Peckinpaw movie this week. Dude must have really chosen great cinematographers because just like "Bring Me The Head" this was beautifully shot. About a German platoon on the Russian front in 1943 when it was obvious that the front was lost to Russia. James Coburn was in a lot of terrible movies, but this was one that showed when he was given a script that fit his stereotype he could be great. Practical effects in this are also far more realistic and impressive than modern CGI war movie effects. Would rate it in my top 10 WW2 movies.

Next Sam Peckinpaw movie I'll watch will be what is supposed to be his best- The Wild Bunch- not exactly looking forward to it as Westerns generally aren't on my list of things to see, but "Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia" and now "Cross of Iron" have led me to give it a chance.

Pak-Man

Isle of Dogs finally made it to my neck of the woods. It's a fantastic movie and I've never seen anything quite like it. I'm not sure what I was expecting from the story, but it wasn't political intrigue. It deals with dark subject matter with a very upbeat and quirky tone, and it's all a really good time. There are some neat flourishes, too. All the fight scenes are portrayed as Heathcliff-Style clouds of dust with limbs sticking out. Anything being displayed on a TV screen is shown with traditional animation. Worth a watch if you love animation.

Also theaters have been showing trailers for this movie in front of every kid's movie since Captain Underpants. It's not going to send kids to therapy or anything (I won't spoil anything, but there isn't a Watership Down/Bambi's Mom/Simba's Dad kind of situation here), but it's a bit dark for the younguns. Fortunately, I'm a diligent parent who noticed the PG-13 rating and saw it with my brother, not my son.

Michael Bay movie = explosions and loud noises in place of character and plot develop = Thor 3

I'm starting to think you didn't actually see Thor: Ragnarok.  You realize if a movie has explosions it doesn't mean that it DOESN'T have character and plot development, right?  Because I think it has tremendous amount of character development and exploration, particularly for both the Hulk and Bruce Banner.  The other thing is that while there's no problem with disliking the movie (though it is an opinion that causes me no end of confusion), it's a pretty false equivalency.

Bay and Waititi are radically different storytellers.  Bay wants to portray a 13 year old boys idea of cool (or at least a 13 year old boy from the 90's) at the expense of good taste with a lack of empathy for collateral damage and an obsession with the bodies of young women (apparently, in one of the Transformers movies he goes into GREAT detail about laws regarding sex with minors, which is SUPER creepy).  Also, the guy loves jokes with racial stereotypes.

Waititi seems interested in stories about characters being pushed out of their comfort zones and becoming stronger for it (a common storytelling technique, but I feel based on the three films I've seen by him, he's really interested in watching characters adjust to their new situations and stumble through them comedically before gaining some new tools).  Though a lot of people die in Thor: Ragnarok, it plays one of two ways: that things have actually gotten serious or things have gotten blackly humourous.  I certainly have noticed very little leering from the camera in the movie.

I'll accept that you might dislike both or that you might even think that Bay is better (an opinion that's hard to wrap my head around, but fine).  But despite the fact that they are both directors who have made big Hollywood action movies, their approaches are radically different.
