now for one more thing, what would have happened if they did not destroy the Dreadnought?

Let's see, the big guns that were a threat before the rebels jumped away had been neutralized, so that dreadnought would not have been in the chase that takes up the rest of the movie, so the answer is not much...

Well, Poe would not have been demoted, Rose would not have lost her sister, so major plot points lost, all lost....

The "fleet killer" would have destroyed the "Resistance" fleet and the film would have been over in a couple minutes time.

I tend to be of the mindset where if I generally would trust a character IRL I wouldn't generally question their judgements. So that's why I end up being a lot less nitpicky of movie characters that I have a lot of familiarity with.

Speaking of... I bought the digital version on Google play last night (even though I still plan on buying the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack) and watched it this afternoon. The ONLY thing that irked me was that my Blu-ray player had an error and had to close so I had to switch to my PS3 to watch the rest of the movie and had to fast-forward to like 45 minutes into the movie(I know, those first-world problems, right?).

I still have to confess, I am REALLY scratching my head as to where all this anger and rage directed at this film I'm seeing on places like Facebook is originating from. The story was good, the performances from everybody were outstanding, the drama was great, but most importantly I was emotionally engaged from beginning until the end. In a universe that's ultimately about space ships and space wizards, it should in theory be pretty hard to screw up Star Wars, but I still will defend my opinion that The Last Jedi is outstanding.

I agree Russoguru...not a big Star Wars fan anymore as I find a lot of the mythology and acting and dialog in the original trilogy to be cringe worthy and rather corny as an adult (and not touching the prequels which I find a hard time staying awake through unless they are riffed) and that's probably not what you were going for, but I enjoyed Last Jedi a lot despite it's flaws.

I think it fucked over the original trilogy, shat on established characters, turned space fantasy into bullshit drama, and basically ruined a lot of enjoyment of those films for me.  This isn't a new statement from me, but your willful ignorance is prompting me to reiterate it.  I. Hate. This. Movie.  I hated the previous one and the "break" that this was supposed to represent with it just compounded all of the problems.

It should not have had any of the original characters in it at all.

@Imarhil...Really....watch the original trilogy through adult eyes. It's hackneyed crap. Terrible acting and dialog and predictable plot. I'm not a fan of most things Disney, but they've improved the Star Wars franchise a while hell of a lot.

No, they piggybacked on a beloved franchise and fucked it up in the name of "moar money". Rogue One is literally the only thing Disney star wars produced that's worth anything. I wish the franchise had simply ended.

Oh great! This thread is back. With the same opinions repeated over and over and over.

Ah, nostalgia, isn't that what Star Wars is all about?

Did get me thinking about the word beloved.  I'm not as much of a Star Wars fan as I am a Star Trek (TOS) fan, but beloved?  I've seen all the episodes dozens of times as a kid and an adult, build models, bought some merch, read some books but not all of them, but always thought of it as more of a hobby.  I do refuse to watch the JJ reboot stuff, so maybe it does border on beloved...

I'm not sure who locked this thread, but I've unlocked it.

If people don't want to participate in it, that's their business, but there's no reason to lock the thread, especially as the movie is just coming out for home viewing.
