I finally made it through the episode. This was rough. I can't stand westerns. Just soooo goddamn boring. And what made it worse was that the ONLY thing that was done well in this movie was how sad it was when Ponchito lost his father. That was heartbreaking.

Hey, guess what?  If someone's dad dies. FRIGGIN' TELL THEM, YOU JERK!

Agreed on the 'no consequences for the kids for nearly killing someone' comments.  I would've been happy if the hero shot one of them when they pulled that with him present. ;)  Also agree with Iron Curtain: 'America' is three parts and includes North, Central, and South America.  Technically those of us in the USA should be calling ourselves 'United States-ians' if we want to distinguish ourselves in the way others call themselves 'Mexicans' or 'Brazilians'.  And yeah, Ponchito losing his father was a very ill-placed emotional moment (in that it was pretty much the only one in an otherwise emotion-vacant film).

Given that the opening credits said, "based on an idea by Willis O'Brien" I was waiting throughout for a comment, "Oh: so this is what Valley of Gwangi looks like when you don't add talent into the mix!"

And no comment on an allosaurus with FANGS?!  To my knowledge, none of the dinosaurs were venomous.

:D

But clearly the tongue evolved because the female allosauri benefited from it, so they just 'naturally selected' for it. :)

He hires a 7 year old for manual labour and still takes the moral high ground.

They're checking the script to see if there's actually a beast in it.

Just picking up some bacon from the dress stand.

Is Pancho really worth 4 wet socks?

We join the films wrap party already in progress.

It's Mexican Chinese New Year!

Iron Curtain

Also agree with Iron Curtain: 'America' is three parts and includes North, Central, and South America.  Technically those of us in the USA should be calling ourselves 'United States-ians' if we want to distinguish ourselves in the way others call themselves 'Mexicans' or 'Brazilians'.

[Zoidberg]Hooray! Someone agrees with me![/Zoidberg]

In all seriousness, I should clarify something: I never objected (or intended to object) to US residents calling themselves "Americans" or their country "America". I objected to presenting a Spanish-speaking Latin-American nation (to wit, Mexico) calling people from the US "Americanos" when people from said Latin-American nations see themselves as "Americanos" too.

Tomayto / potahto... ;D  Yes, I got the distinction.  I just carried it further.  But yeah: it was some seriously idiocentric screenwriting (as is any cowboy film showing native North Americans as being the aggressors, instead of them simply protecting their homes, land and people from violent invaders [i.e. every cowboy film with native North Americans in it]).  And it would have been nice to have a comment such as one of the Mexicans who called him an 'Americano' saying, "...wait a second... we're Americanos too!" in the riffing.

Oh sorry, my apologies. It wasn't explicitly stated so I was confused.

I really enjoyed this one. Felt a lot like an early era classic MST. If the movie hadn't been so dull I would put it up there with Avalanche and Starcrash.

The last two host segs were indeed the best so far. The fashion show and the pandemonium of the costumed dance had me laughing out loud.

My favorite riff was a chuckle as the camera slowly panned and lingered on a big chunk of mountain.

For the stinger I would have gone with dinosaur running down the mountain with his tongue out. First stinger that disappointed a little.

Can't wait to watch ep 7 tonight

WhyDontTheyLook

Even for a Western, this movie was super-dull, at least until the Beast finally shows up.  After that, for the last, I dunno, 20 minutes or so, it's pretty fun.

The riffing was pretty funny in this one.  It didn't seem as rapid-fire as in earlier episodes, but that could be a case of the slowness of the movie negating the speediness of the riffs.  Liked the host segment spoofing the random parade.
"You never know, in a tight jam a nuclear missile just might come in handy."

Also really love the return to more esoteric riffs with Season 11. Murnau's Sunrise? Haven't heard reference like that in long time.

eegah

Meh. There were some good riffs, but it was a tough one.

I'm going to interject an interesting fact. The UN officially recognizes the term "American" as meaning specifically "US citizen". Why? Because there is simply no other convenient thing to call us, at least not in English. However "America" still refers to the whole continent, not just the US.

"That's it, I'm turning this off", "You can't, we're made out of those special parts"
