Yes in the various news stories published recently they've talked about days in the recording studio recording the films (2 per day), then going to the theatre to record the motions.
Interesting. That is different than how it was done in the original seasons, right?

When I first heard the new theme song, I thought, "Wow. Felicia Day can sing!" Then I thought, "Oh, duh. I guess I knew that already."

Yes. The voice actors (Trace, J Elvis, Kevin, Bill) all did their own puppeteering and the theater was shot "live". If you watch Season 8 start to finish, you can watch Bill get better and better with his puppeteering

I still think it would have been a funny nod to Bill if in the first scene of the first episode, Crow's puppeteering was deliberately bad.

Maybe I missed it... What is Gypsy bringing into and out off the theater?

I don't think it was made clear (at least in this episode).  I think its just supposed to be that she's doing maintenance.

Watched this again this morning, this time on Netflix on a big TV.  This is one slick looking show.

Is it me or did the voices get ahead of the movie at one point? There's a "they really need to get these guys dorms" line that starts a half second before a guy sleeping in a chair is shown. Likewise earlier in same segment they started a Xanadu line before it cut to the exterior view of the building

Not you, I also noticed it.  Haven't noticed it happening in any others I've seen so far.

Voices problem...Are you watching via Netflix? I had problem with the downloads-depending on what program I tried to play them on, they were showing a frame rate of anywhere from 23 to 47.5 frames per second and the voices were way off when trying to play them on my media player. Once I figured out the proper frame rate, a re-encode fixed them.

Not the same problem, it's just 2 (or 3 maybe?) riffs in Reptilicus that are slightly ahead of the action on screen.
Looks to me like the riffs were synced to the cut from one scene to another instead of what we see a half second later.

I've seen what you describe when playing files and even some DVDs on a PC, lip-sync being off by a fraction throughout the movie due to player issues.

The commercial breaks are weird, but did anyone else catch the snazzy instrumental versions of MST3K classics playing in the background?

Wild Rebels! I might have squeed and clapped my hands a little.

Pretty good! The riffing felt a bit scripted (blurted out quickly instead of relaxed), but was generally good. Loved the host segments!

the style felt more ICWXP than MST3k. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Bothers me a little that there didn't seem to be any voice acting that keeps the robots in character. Servo sounds nothing like Kevin. It feels like I'm watching a dub because the voice doesn't match the robot and the personality set up in previous seasons.

I really liked the opening, the new theme, and the commercial break stuff is cool. It all reminded me of Statical Planets a lot and that's a compliment of course. Host segs were okay but they're not a big thing to me anyway. I'm sure they'll develop a bit more chemistry as it progresses. Remember how so so Season 1 was?

Okay my one complaint. The riffing is too fast when there's no dialogue. Given a sequence without dialogue, they speed up the riffing to the point where I don't really have time to laugh. Or maybe I was just really tired tonight? It works at moments as when they riffed on all the lamps but there were long stretches where maybe 4 out of 5 riffs would have been enough. I watched the first half of ep 2 and felt the same. They need to slow it down.

I kind of agree here.  I feel like this is a consequence of having a few teams of writers as opposed to everyone sharing the writing room.  Don't get me wrong, I understand for practical reasons why it is being done in teams but it does make things a bit awkward when they are all trying to rapid fire the riffs.  I'm hoping that with the hopefully upcoming seasons that they'll iron this out.  It does feel like a kid who has learned how to tell jokes but is so nervous he is speeding through them.
