Goddamn. I'm still worried about the reshoots, but that looks amazing.

People were pretty excited about Suicide Squad from the trailers...

I think that's kinda par for the course. A lot of trailers are really good these days in spite of the fact that I think the overall way in which they're made needs a serious overhaul. Rogue One's gonna be a very good movie. Dunno if it'll be better than TFA, but the possibility exists.

I would be surprised if Rogue One wasn't at least very good, just that you should never trust trailers! (I am keen to see the movie too)

Ehhh, I think sometimes you can trust trailers. I guess it depends on the context and everything.

Trailers are just like any commercial. They can be informative, but you have to remember that their goal is to sell!

Asbestos Bill

From the trailer, we can at least tell that it has a distinct tone from the main movies and it has Gareth Edwards' mastery of scale (I'll probably try to see this one in IMAX). And I think saying "a lot" of trailers are really good is a stretch. For me, it's still pretty rare, but yeah, the Suicide Squad Bohemian Rhapsody music video is one of them.

Now I'm going to go to the dollar theater so I can hopefully see the R1 trailer on the big screen...

Trailers used to be really magical. They could really make you feel like you were in their world, surrounded by mystery and intrigue.

I think our culture has collective Stockholm syndrome.  Trailers are the things we were forced to watch before the thing we wanted to watch started.  But now all of sudden we love trailers before movies but hate commercials, while we forget that that's what trailers are; commercials for movies.

And it bothers me to no end when I'm forced to watch a commercial before a trailer online.  Being forced to watch advertising before I can watch advertising is just plain evil.

I'm not saying all trailers are bad, but they are advertising. Shit movies don't come with trailers telling you the movie is going to be shit. A great movie can have a terribly put together trailer, and a terrible movie can have fantastic trailer.

You can see a trailer and be interested for sure, but trailers exist only to convince you to buy their product and they will often be very deceptive int he way they do it.

And yet we have commercials for movies now, too, that are distinct from trailers, during the pre-show, "First Look," bullshit hour. They are heavy on the actors telling you how great the movie is, and light on actually showing the movie (or TV show, sometimes).

What are really bad, though, are the movie tie-in commercials. Those really drive home the fact that even the movie itself only exists to make money by any means possible, and, to me, they undermine the...(integrity is too strong a word)...illusion of the movie universe? They break the fourth wall, and that weakens the movie before I even see it.

That could be because of the half hour of actual commercials every theater plays now (Usually disguised as a TV show nobody in their right mind would watch). By the time the trailers start it's like, " Finally! Something related to movies!"

Another thing I'm spoiled by Alamo Drafthouse for. When you show up early there they're usually playing strange things connected to the movie you're about to see (like before Deadpool, they showed a long collection of Deadpool cosplayers dancing) then ads for specific movie events that Alamo is doing in the next month, then the normal trailers.

I'm eager to see if there's any information or knowledge or character in Rogue one that will compliment TFA and episode VIII.

Well, all the other sci-fi films are doing it...
