Amazing how location shooting goes these days.  Now, you can go to someplace that you think looks cool, then completely CG the hell out of it so that it sort of resembles the place you were filming, but not really.

Actually, I think they should've left it with the escalators and the people with umbrellas.  Showed another side of the universe you never see in Star Wars.

I don't really dig this, "A Star Wars Story" thing. I guess they're trying to emphasize "Not Episode 8," but that wording makes me think of, "We're Back: A Dinosaur Story" and I'd rather if nothing ever did that.

Did you watch with the sound down?  "the Empire has a new weapon" and "figure out how to destroy it" are pretty good clues.  Someone had to get those death star plans from the Empire so Leia could hide them in R2D2....

I doubt there's much CGI there at all in that particular shot, other than perhaps that robot.  Looks like scenics, carpenters and set dressers covered the escalators with a different material, and then laid down a different flooring.  All stuff that's quite simple for a movie of that budget.  Stuff that is easier to do practically than to do in post. 

Not to say that your point isn't valid in a general sense, just not in that shot.
