How do I even know if I have auto update on?
Control Panel
Windows Update
Change Settings and select
Check for Updates but let me choose when to download and install them
Thanks, I was able to easily find and change it. I'm assuming this means that the computer will be constantly alerting me to updates now, though?

Is there a quick and easy list of how to shut off ALL of the spyware that Microsoft Win 10 installs and has on by default?  By that, I mean everything that allows them to see/scan what is on the computer and/or use one's computer to spread software to others' computers.

I know there are several websites that have lists of stuff to turn off, sorry I don't have them bookmarked any more since I did all that last summer.

I'm stuck back on Vista and would love nothing more than to be forced to upgrade. It's getting to the point where the browsers won't support Vista, and more and more sites are looking like garbled messes...

The GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 have been announced to release later this month for $600 and $350. Apparently the GTX 1070 out performs the current Titan X and the 1080 out performs two 980s in SLI. If this is true this is the biggest leap in performance I've seen in years.

About a week ago I was considering pulling the trigger on a 980Ti for a very decent price but decided to wait. I'm so glad I did because the performance to cost on these upcoming cards is ridiculous. I suspect many 970s will be up on ebay for very reasonable prices soon if anyone's looking for a deal on really good card.

Someone brought me a 7 year old Macbook asking if I could fix it, the back was popping open and the touchpad was popped out.

Took the back off and the battery looked like a balloon about to pop, bending and breaking everything around it...

Told them it wasn't worth it to even attempt getting new parts, even if they got a new battery all the circuit boards near it were probably damaged.

Wish I had taken some pictures, it was something to see.

Know what's funny?  That's not an uncommon problem.  There was a battery that would just do that after 3 or 4 years.  I had two batteries that did that.  It was a known design flaw in macbooks that they just never did anything about.

A quick search finds lots of pictures with Macbooks torn apart by expanding batteries, so I guess it was a common thing.  And a few iPhones as well.

Got an expert opinion on how damaged my computer was during shipping. Obviously they chipped my case, but the PSU and GPU aren't firing at all. The SATA connectors were BENT, so it can't read anything xonnected to them. It will still boot into Bios, but nothing more than that is possible. He said that it was at least 75% unsalvagable; Only the drives made it in tact. Also received some advice from a friend that when they try to low ball me for depreciation on the machine, I should say that I factored in the depreciation when declaring its value, and that it was a 3000k machine when I bought it. To be fair, if it had come preassembled, It probably WOULD have been around that mark, so it's not technically a lie. I just need to take a few pictures of the damage, email them in, and then the process is started. I also need to repackage it so that they can see that it was properly packed, yada yada yada. Whatever happened, they owe me the machine. End of fucking story.

What shipper did you use? UPS?
What ever the declared value you entered on the form, you should get that amount.
I would deal with a local manager or supervisor in the claims dept.

Yeah, I still need to take the pictures to show that it was packed well, Which we'll send to them tonight. I won't mention deprectiation until they do, so I should get the full amount.

So, all the parts are picked out for my new machine, just have to wait for the 27th for the 1070 to come out, and UPS to handle my claim. Hopefully it's fast...

Not the worst time to break your computer.  If you would have done it 3 weeks ago that would have been more unfortunate.

Those 1070s and 1080s are going to be very hard to get because of the crazy hype. Some people say it may be the end of the year before it's consistently available. I plan to watch preorders pretty close for my 1080.

Yeah, I'm annoyed, but things could be worse. Upgrading from AMD throughout to Nvidia and Intel. I'm pretty psyched. Performance to cost ratio is going to be fantastic. Boyfriend picked out the rest of thing, but I was set on the 1070, and he couldn't argue with that. I'll post the specs when i can.
