The slimer on the box will be a woman and everyone will be convinced the flavor is ruined.

So is there a petition for the return of Ecto-Cooler to coincide with the movie?  Because that seems to be the kind of thing the internet is usually all over.

Finally! A worthy internet cause!

I showed the original on Halloween this last year, and maybe 4 kids (out of 150 boarders) showed up to watch it. The rest said "ew" or various equivalents when I said we'd be watching Ghostbusters.
It's already an "old man" film.
Maybe some kids need perspective these days. I'd show them 2 minutes of any film from the 20's and then show them Ghostbusters and then see if their tone changes.

To be fair (and to put it in a frightening perspective)...imagine it's the 80s, Ghostbusters is still in theaters, and you're a young person (kid, teenager, whatever), and your thirty-something dad/teacher/whomever puts on one of his favorite movies from his childhood...20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  I can imagine a bunch of kids frowning and acting all huffy in that situation, too, and he can't understand why.

Granted, there wasn't 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea cereal, drinks, spin-off cartoon shows (well, there may have been, but I didn't see them), and whatnot.  Heck, the Ninja Turtles are from the same era and they keep attracting new fans all the time.  But it is true, the 80s were a long time ago, relatively speaking.

And really, Ghostbusters 2 kind of pointed this out in the first ten minutes, and that was only five years.  "We thought it was gonna be He-Man!"

HATE!

It makes me want to rescind my earlier comments. Even though my particular complaints about Melissa McCarthy are the same as if Kevin James had been cast. But whenever I see comments from "Men's Rights Activists" it just makes me want to chop my dick off.

I know at least some of the rants are meant as parody, but I can't always tell the difference, and I'm afraid to find out how lopsided the ratio is.

Maybe. I'm just saying that perhaps "pop culture annals" is overstated.  It was a big movie for one generation of people, and I'm sure my son will like it because I do (and he'll have exposure to it), but it's not going to be Star Wars or the Wizard of Oz, I don't think.

Yea, I think I would agree there. My kids absolutely loved both Ghostbusters movies.. my youngest was a Ghostbuster this halloween... I was kind of surprised that it was still a costume for sale. That said, none of the kids we encountered knew what he was supposed to be. "Ghostbusters, cool!" came only from teachers / parents..... So I'm not sure that it's ever been THAT universally adored or timeless. Now I've always loved the original, and grew up with it, but it doesn't crack a spot in my top three Bill Murray vehicles... maybe might not make the top 5 if his extended cameo in Caddyshack was counted. That's not a knock on Ghostbusters, just that Murray's early 80s to mid 90s salad days were just that good. At the risk of completely dismissing Aykroyd and Ramis, that's why GB2 never stood a chance for anything beyond vaguely forgettable, because Murray was at the height of his powers and yet was barely in it.

As far as a call back to the original cast... I think either Murray or Moranis would be great to see again in the "Peck" antagonist role... I think Murray might do it for the right paycheck... Moranis would be a long shot to get out of retirement.

Maybe this time they'll admit that "I aint afraid of no ghosts" actually means they ARE afraid of ghosts.

Or that they don't care about job security, in that they don't fear the state of having no ghosts to bust.

The whole "all female Ghostbusters" idea reminds me of the end credits bit on Final Sacrifice. With Mike as the sleazy movie producer. "Hell, they're all girls. She's a girl, he's a girl. Everybody in the series is a damn girl!" "Yeah, but Rowsdower..." "A big hairy girl!"

And that reminds me of the Monty Python sketch where Graham Chapman is a hollywood movie mogul has hired a bunch of yes men to help him write a movie. Of course, he seems very confused about what he wants which leads to all sorts of the gut-busting rolling on the floor sort of hilarity that I'd expect from them.

Any idea what the bit is called?

All I remember is that it began with a subtitle that says "Ypres, 1914" with Eric Idle as a soldier playing the harmonica in this really melancholic fashion.
