I can't imagine them using Melissa McCarthy as anything but a long fat joke.  She has yet to be in a comedic role that does not have her act like a cartoon character.

That's been my biggest problem with her work too, but I've heard good things about her role in St Vincent.  Anyone actually seen that one?

I'm all for the rest of the cast, but I think this movie will live or die based on the script.

I saw it, and yes, she is great, but she's also not doing anything funny.

Funny or not, at least it shows she has some range.

Oh, and by the way, all the complaints I see about the backlash being sexist? Yeah, I don't doubt there are some sexist guys who are complaining just because they are all women. But every complaint I've seen about McCarthy's casting ARE EXACTLY THE SAME COMPLAINTS IF KEVIN JAMES HAD BEEN CAST!

They should have cast the BK Kids Club

Oh wait.  They already did:

I find it rather amusing that their website is still up.

And in that they were smart to keep Egon, BECAUSE HE'S THE BEST ONE!

The teeth gnashing in other areas of the Internet has been spectacular. We're really in for 18 months of this, aren't we?

Look, I love Ghostbusters as much as anyone, but the reaction has been utterly ridiculous.

I mean, seriously - Jezebel's post had numerous verbal handstands and everywhere else there were wails and complaints about the death of Hollywood (not here - hell, even on the Buffalo Sabres fan MB I frequent, the wailing was good and loud).

It's not exactly the way I'd have done it (ignoring the other movies doesn't sit well with me, and if they're going to go after Murray, just bring him back as Venkman to bounce off the ladies), but I'm not the guy making the movie.

Bring back Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver! I mean come on, that's pretty obvious isn't it? Not just for a damn cameo either.

Seven seasons of Gilmore Girls disagree with that assertion.

At any rate, it's more or less the cast I expected. I wouldn't exactly say I'm excited for this movie, but it has the potential to be quite fun with the right script. And even if it's not any good, it's not like it'll overshadow the original in the annals of pop culture.

I showed the original on Halloween this last year, and maybe 4 kids (out of 150 boarders) showed up to watch it. The rest said "ew" or various equivalents when I said we'd be watching Ghostbusters.
It's already an "old man" film.
Maybe some kids need perspective these days. I'd show them 2 minutes of any film from the 20's and then show them Ghostbusters and then see if their tone changes.

So is there a petition for the return of Ecto-Cooler to coincide with the movie?  Because that seems to be the kind of thing the internet is usually all over.

That's at least one thing that'd make them (and me) happy.

Then again, I'm sure one ingredient will be in a slightly different proportion and the internet will explode in "Hi-C killed my childhood" rants.
