Was the Hobbit book necessary? Is ANY movie necessary? No, but gimmie more. :^) Also, how do you get to be too old to play GANDALF?

I was thinking of how many years there are between the setting of the Hobbit and LOTR: 50? 60? I'm not really familiar with the Universe - apart from the films - but I was just wondering if Gandalf would look different.  Does he have extra-long life because he's a wizard? If he does, I can't see a problem with it.

In Middle Earth, wizards aren't human. They're sort of like angels. Divine beings who take on a human form. As such they don't age. So there wouldn't be a problem that way.

Yeah Saruman, Gandalf, the Balrog, were Maia (the Balrog being like the Orc were corrupted Elf)

Heh heh.  True.

I don't think Gandalf would look all that different 60 years earlier. In fact, he should probably be made to look exactly like he did in the other films.  That is, if Raimi is going for an aesthetic that resembles Jackson's vision.  I think Raimi's Hobbit should probably look very similar to the other three films, if there's one thing Jackson got right, it was set and costume design.

Maybe Raimi should hire Weta Workshop again?

Of course, the highlight of the film would be Smaug, so he would have to look amazing.  But Raimi is no stranger to intigrating CGI into his films, so I have confidence.

I guess we can expect Bruce Campbell to make some sort of cameo apperance in the film haha. But what minor role could he play? :-/

Who's the guy who shoots Smaug?  Bard?  Bruce could play him.

That sounds good to me. Bruce in hero type role. Sounds about right ;)

I don't think Hobbit should be directed by Raimi.... Ridley Scott please.....

And as for Kirsten Dunst -- I actually think she's right. How could you remove any of those actors / actresses and expect the audience to feel like the movies are still continuous?

I liked Alien and all, but I don't think Ridley Scott would be right for The Hobbit.

Personally, I say, Terry Gilliam would be a nice choice, as long as he gets a small budget and no studio interference, he could do a great Hobbit, though with a big-budget and studio control, he could make a shitty film.

WARNING!

This might be a case to argue for one spidey love/hate intrest that has yet to be mentioned here, and that's Felicia Hardy/Black Cat...

Yeah guys, try and keep these threads on track.   People spend a lot of time and effort on them and it is the least we can do to show them some respect.

Say, does anyone have a good brownie recipe?

I really don't see Ridley Scott capturing the pastoral beauty of Middle Earth. Alfonso Cuaraon, tough, I could.

And give moviegoers a little more credit. Or maybe less. Stick a pretty girl with red hair across from Spider-Man and it's Mary Jane. I sincerely doubt that millions will be flooding theatres in a couple weeks to go see "the new Kirsten Dunst movie." They're going to see Spidey. Do I want to see Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi stick around? Yeah, but I also don't want the franchise to die.

Felicia's my favorite Spider-Man character, and I'd love to see her in a Spidey movie, but I don't see it ever happening. Everyone's familiar with Catwoman, and audiences would bitch about the Spider-Man franchise ripping off Batman. That being said, Elisha Cuthbert has my vote.
