Sam Raimi to do The Hobbit?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sam Raimi is considering directing The Hobbit. Huh. Not the first director who springs to mind. Thoughts?

Also, what really struck me from that article is what a self-important little bitch Kirsten Dunst. On making Spider-Man 4 without her, Maguire, or Raimi:

Quote"It's disrespectful to the whole team, I think, to do that. And audiences aren't stupid. It'd be a big flop without me, Tobey, or Sam. That would really not be the smartest move. But they know that already."

Yeah, sweetie, Spider-Man is a hugely successful franchise because of you.  ::)

actually i think sam is a great pick for the hobbit.  I think he would get the humor of it.  and toby and sam are required for spidey not dunst

Sharktopus

As much as I love what Raimi's done, I don't think any of them are really required to keep Spider-Man going. Tobey's getting older than Peter Parker should, and I have to admit that I'm curious to see what another competent director might do with Spidey.

ScottotD

is the italics a suggestion that Rami is not competent or a reference to the third Batman and X-Men films?

Rami when he's got the freedom is too wild a director to do The Hobbit in my opinion.

Keep in mind, this is someone who let herself be aired on television receiving a "psychic reading" from John Edward.

Have you seen A Simple Plan? One of the things that impresses me about that film is how much of it brims with power held in check, both in front of and behind the camera.

Yeah, but it's hardly the feel you'd want to a LotR movie... then again, neither is Meet the Feebles.

Kirstin IS very cute.  I know a lot of hardcore nerds who won't see recast sequels.

Sure they do. Soldiers tend to be large and armed.

I love what Raimi's done, but I'm just curious what a different, equally competent director might do with Spidey. But if it came down to Joel Shumacher's Spider-Man 4 or no Spider-Man 4, I'd have to go with none at all.

QuoteRami when he's got the freedom is too wild a director to do The Hobbit in my opinion.

But the source material would be pretty restrictive for The Hobbit. Here's my question: How many dwarves do you cut out? I know the purists will scream bloody murder, but there are what, 12 dwarves in The Hobbit? That's just too many dwarves with no distinct personalities for one movie.

Why not? With a new Mary Jane or no Mary Jane at all, there are still plenty of young actresses in Hollywood with t-shirts to soak. And, let's face it, ones with nicer racks than Kirsten Dunst. I always thought she looked a bit too much like a femmy teenage boy, anyway.

You think they'll soak MJ again in Spidey 3, or will they soak Gwen instead? Maybe soak them both? What the hell, throw Betty Brant in there for a soaking too - she hasn't gotten enough screen time.

sarcasm_made_Easy

good point, and you got me there.  and yeah i guess she doesnt have a great rack, but it was a cool scene anyways.,

Sharktopus

"T-Shirts To Soak" should be band name or album title or something.

sarcasm_made_Easy

or at least a list of pictures in maxim or stuff or something like that.
