One thing I can say for the special - at least no one turned into a parrot or a living box of popcorn.

Not yet at least:

Oh man, after watching the Special, it would be a crime against humanity if they don't do a full riff of Hackers. I've never seen the movie, but I'd heard it's ridiculous. However, I had no idea that it was THAT ridiculous.

Haven't decided if I'm going to get the Best of yet, but I am considering it.  Seems like it'd be a good thing to have for a party when people might not have the patience to watch an entire movie riff.

You're inviting the wrong people to your parties.

I'm just talking in theory here, I haven't had a real party in quite awhile.  But I think it depends greatly on the party.  A full length riff would be great if that is the purpose of the gathering.  As an extra that not everyone will be excited over, a short or something like these specials would likely go over better.

Guess I should have put a winky face with my post. Maybe I'll add one to my sig...

Or you could just morph into one giant winky. Then you could go into orbit with Rocky Jones and communicate with earth via emoticons entirely.  :D

I will pay $100 for riffs of The Net, Hackers, and Lawnmower Man but I still refuse to buy these clip shows.

So the 90s Cyber Thriller Special led me to getting The One Man Band's iRiff of Hackers. Still want an official full length Rifftrax release, but The One Man Band iRiff is outstanding.

I was just wondering, since we're coming up on 2 months since there's been any word about the reception of these VODs, has there been any word about future releases like these? I would buy like these in a heartbeat.

I still refuse to buy these, it's hard because I have literally seen every riff they have ever done. It might be wrong of me but I don't like the idea of the guys working on these instead of full length rifs.

Well, the "best of" could certainly be called that.
But the other one is more like the summer blockbuster special they did in the MST3K days.  And is all new material, so I wouldn't compare it to a TV clip show.

Hmm.. Yeah I'm not sold on these either.. :-\

I don't have a problem with them. The best of would give a chance for someone who hasn't seen those particular riffs a chance.  They have said many times that Karate Kid III tanked in sales, but it is constantly referenced in other riffs. Since the majority of RiffTrax's customers (not us forum users/members) seem to prefer the VOD, it gives them a sample of what they missed by not doing the old sync-a-mp3.  As far as the Cyber-thriller special goes... if they couldn't get the VOD rights for them I bet MP3 versions would fail miserably and wouldn't be worth the time to put out. Out of the three I really only want to see a full version of Hackers. I hope they will put out a VOD someday!
