I guess the movie explains why easier to control defense items like target missiles, poisons to kill the things, etc. do not work.  I just do not believe there is anything that lives that a missile would not blow up.

Most monster movies you have to suspend your disbelief a little more than usual, to include real military weapons.

We have bunker buster bombs that can penetrate 20 feet of reinforced concrete before exploding.  And all kinds of armor piercing shells and bombs.  So, yeah, pretty unlikely any protective scales or skin grown by something alive could survive those.

Like most movies, I just have to put my blinkers on and enjoy the films.........and this one could be good fun.

I've as much interest in seeing this movie as I do seeing Ron Jeremy pluck out his taint hairs.

I realize this movie isn't going to be for everybody, but if you feel that way, why post in this thread? I don't post my indifference to football in that thread.

I would be seeing this movie anyway based on the premise (as long as it wasn't directed by Michael Bay or Paul W.S. Anderson or something). But Guillermo Del Toro is very good at adding some intelligence to what should be dumb or shallow material.

Bad Buzz?

I'd actually be disappointed if this movie is any good.

I want terrible, awful, camp.

I will give it that, Del Toro does have my interest piqued and, well, I *may* go see this just for "bad movie/camp factor."  But, man, the trailers for this make it look like an Asylum film.

Johnny Unusual

No, this makes it look like an Asylum movie.

Bob

Asylum already has a movie for this?  Wow, this one looks like it would be hard to remake as Pacific Rim looks like a total special effects movie.   Well, I guess they have good tech people in Brazil that work cheap.....

I think Pacific Rim will have all the odd things we kind of worry about in SciFi films, but the special effects and some good acting guys should push that all under the covers and we will like it.  That is my hope.  And, a riff on this one would be cool too.

Honestly, in the hands of anyone else, I would expect that.

But Del Toro clearly loves these types of monster movies and his track record is damned good. So by all means, I expect this to be a little better than fodder for our favorite smartasses.

My favorite bit is this:
QuoteAnd speaking of beholding... YOU SEE EVERYTHING! There is no shakey-cam. There is no confusing and erratic editing.
Hell FUCKING yeah!

And it's currently at 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 55 reviews.

I wouldn't pit too much stock in that. I think they had similar articles about Inception.

Got my IMAX 3D tickets for tomorrow night. I am excite.

My expectations weren't wild, but Pacific Rim was the most fun I've ever had at a movie. Here's my review: http://cobess.com/pacific-rim-review-the-most-fun-youll-have-at-the-movies-in-years/

See it on the biggest screen with the best possible audio.
