Awww... I liked those movies... (Although the third one I could do without.)

The terror of the script?

That was a really awful movie.

BTTF2?

Yeah. I saw the first movie in theaters and liked it but just never saw the second until recently when APGIL put it on. We got like fifteen minutes in and couldn't take it any more. Just awful.

None of them are particularly good.

YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH!

You what makes this particularly amusing is that he goaded you into using your goddamn shift key to use a capital letter.  ;)

I don't understand why people didn't like Thor. It was GOOD.

I liked Thor. Not as much as some of the other Marvel produced movies, but it was a hell of a lot better than I expected.

I also really like all 3 Back To The Future movies. The first one is great, and a rightful classic. But I think the 2nd is my favorite because it does so much interesting stuff with time travel. And the various Biff iterations are awesome! The 3rd one feels very redundant, is in a time period that feels VERY out of place for Doc, and I don't like westerns. It only really adds an unnecessary love story.

Not a Funny Picture, but my thoughts on the Back to the Future / Thor discussion.  Since not 'thread-subject-relevant', I put it in a spoiler so as to be more easily skipped.

Actually, the first time I saw Thor I thought it was good; not exceptional, but good 'for a Marvel film' [because of most of what we had to compare it to by that point].  The second time I found some fault with it, esp. Anthony Hopkins rather uninspired portrayal of Odin (and yes, I do mean while he was awake); and, of course, the slapstick.  If Marvel wants their movie franchises to be taken seriously, they had pretty damn well get rid of the fucking slapstick! >:( It's not funny, and it dumbs down the films it appears in to fit the preconceived notion of the public about how childish 'comic book movies' are, instead of them being seen as serious S-F/Fantasy movies [Cap Am and The Avengers have been the best for that].

Back to Thor... the further times I've seen it I again thought it was good, possibly because by that time I'd been innoculated against the parts I felt were lacking and simply attended more to the rest.  Like DG, I think other Marvel films are better (for me, basically all those leading to The Avengers except the Incredible Hulk film, with possibly IM2 tied with Thor), but I still think it is enjoyable to watch.

With Back to the Future, I think it is like the Star Wars trilogy: if you were in the right age group when you first saw them, then you continue to appreciate them to some degree later.  But if you were too old when you first saw them, you can't comprehend why they have appeal for others.

For me, I think the first one was good because it broke new ground (well... in American S-F, the Brits had had time-travel for a couple decades by that point ;)).  The second one I found interesting because, again like DG, I thought the exploration of action/consequences for different events in the timeline was interesting: following them back and forth.  The third, again like DG, I didn't care for because it was a Western and because Doc was out of place there (but he seemed to not have a problem with it).  I didn't care one way or another about the love story angle, though it added levels of motivation that would otherwise have been missing.

I do agree with Im: the third BttF film actually stands up better (and longer) as a film - moreso than the second one - because the second relies so heavily on the plot of the first film.  The interesting timelines of the second film lose their uniqueness the more one sees it; but, while the third film has the same basic outline as the others, it goes about it in a different way, so there's more independent plot in it than in the second film.

Personally I've seen the Back to the Future films 'enough' (after dusting them off for viewing with the iRiffs).  I think it highly unlikely I'll watch them again.  But I'll likely keep the trilogy DVD pack I bought a few years ago just in case (I got the three films for $5, so what the heck).
Edited to clarify/correct, because what I'm thinking and what I type still isn't meshing properly [which is why there were about 5 posts from the last week that I removed either right before posting them, or immediately after, because it just would've taken too much effort to fix them].

Since there seems to be a 'Thor spot' in our discussion ;) I figured I'd just start a (likely short) thread in the Films area to continue as long as anyone wants to.  That, rather than continue to add text-only posts to the Funny Pictures Thread.

It is here: 'THOR' - any value to the film? *SPOILERS LIKELY*
