(I was going to post this in the religion thread.  I am guessing there is still one and if the mods like I will move it there.  But since this thread had the bulk of my comments earlier on this matter, I thought it would be best here.)

Yeah, we're trying to get this thread back on track. If you could move it on over to the religion thread (They'll know what you're talking about), that would be appreciated.

Done.

Lot craziness here for a thread that had been dead for a month.

But what I don't see here any response from Rifftrax (see the title of the thread) which who is this post was intended for.

So yeah, anyone from Rifftrax care to respond to the original post (ignoring all the nonsense that ensued with Doc and others)?

I am sure that any type of thoughtful response from someone at Rifftrax (Mike, Kevin, Bill, or Conor would be best) will be very much appreciated.

No trolling either, or you will be reproted!

MartyS (Gromit)

I can't remember Mike ever posting here.  Kevin, maybe once?  Bill used to maybe every few months or so but it's been years since that last happened.

I have changed my mind slightly on this topic.  I can see where some of these jokes might simply be a reminder of the negative reactions people have.  And not wanting to be reminded of it when trying to escape through entertainment.  So trying to point out that the jokes are not offensive or aimed at them wouldn't matter.

I still don't think the riffers should change due to any group complaining because it would eventually kill a lot of satire.  When they do "matter is all there is so life isn't worth living" jokes I'd could make a case that they are saying that not believing in a god is wrong, but I'm not going to ask that they change.

Damn shame too.  You would think they would be active here at least a little bit.  Maybe they lurk?

Conor does still post here from time to time so maybe he can deliver an official response to the original post.

Alexonfyre put my thoughts pretty succinctly on the first page, so I won't go into it too much.  All I can add is two points.

The actual riffers never actually delve into the discussion forums and it's ridiculous to feel like you are entitled to their input on this issue.  Bill used to come around about 3-4 years ago, but that's it.

Humor has a constantly evolving list of acceptable versus unacceptable targets.  Transexuals are still in the earlier group, and it's probably gonna be a couple decades before they move into the latter.  Best to get a sense of humor and learn to live with it rather than try to force conformity.  People make jokes about how video gamers and sci-fi fans are pale, friendless, losers.  I deal with it.  Part of consuming humor is that you run the risk of getting offended.  Usually, and this is definitely the case with Rifftrax, the humorist is not actively trying to offend or shock.  It just happens.

yes, people who are constantly attacked, demeaned, and ridiculed should just learn to live with it.

That's not what I'm saying, but I don't know the best way to put it.  I think that if you're talking real, vicious, hateful attacks, you are right to be hurt and offended.  But I don't recall anything Rifftrax ever did that was outwardly hostile.  Like, I remember them doing a joke in "The Room" where they said something like "It's one of those ironic names, like when they call Mr. Gaga a lady."  It seems pretty innocuous to me.

I don't know what to say.  Stuff's gonna happen that offends you.  But I think the character of the joke teller is more important than the content of the joke.

What  I don't understand was why you chose to make your statement in the most public, and least effective way possible.  Don't these guys have a couple E-Mail addresses you can use?

I think the point was (and was even stated as such) that, in the case of humour-based things such as Rifftrax, the jokes are not an attack, demeaning, or ridiculing... so the person should not take it as such and find the humour in the humour-based product.

Be offended at ACTUAL demeaning, ridiculing, offensive attacks... not at "equal opportunity" yet still very good-natured comedy.

Rifftrax is far from coming close to Michael Richards or Tracey Morgan "outburst" style of "comedy" (where they don't seem to realize that you have to have a PUNCH-LINE for a racial or "offensive" joke to be... a joke... or funny.)  So learn to laugh and live with the well-intended comedy, while focusing your upset at people who say things with the INTENT of being cruel and unfunny.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I don't think anyone is suggesting they are "entitled" to hear anything from the guys.  I just think it would be nice if they would poke their heads in here every so often and mingle with us.

Video gamers and sci-fi fans are video gamers and sci-fi fans by choice.  They can also get some sun, find some friends, and raise their self-esteem.  Transgenders cannot not be transgenders.  Not really sure how you are comparing one type of joke to the other.
