So if someone uses the word 'Tranny' to describe Transmission issues, that's offensive too??

Cause I see that all the time here on Craigslist postings :o

Example..
Quote2001 dodge durangop Slt 5.9l v8 magnum. 190,000 miles .Car runs well but has a tranny issue. may need new transmission or Tcc circuit checked. Too complex for me to figure out. would be a great buy for someone who is mechanically inclined. Could be a easier fix than i know. Price is negotiable.willing to trade for car equal to value as well> Lets talk

The Good: 6mos old paint job, leather seat
installed new Pcm and tune up
3rd row seating

The bad: needs tires, tranny hesitates to shift into second at times, needs window regulator front driverside, No CAT, A/c needs service

I would think that in that context it would be fine.  He is talking about a car, not a transgender person.
Ok but I can see the part of that last line being used as a joke ..
I don't see that as offensive but as Bill is discovering, maybe it would be in poor taste :-X

What's that line that's often used on conservatives who are offended by pornography?  Just don't look?  You treat innocuous jokes like some sort of hate crime.  Yeesh.

My respect for Bill is huge now, rather than ignore the complaints he wrote a (snippy) reply but then re-addressed the issue and questioned his own first response though reseach and seeking advice friends.  Takes a very big man to admit you made a mistake, especially in the internet age and he was happy to do that.

Bravo Mr. Corbett.

Plus, while it obviously isn't directly related this sounds like it will also take care of the jokes being made in Rifftrax :-)

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

That was an amazing post.  I can why he was angry and dismissive to the response at first, but that he took the time to look into the whole issue shows what a fine person he really is.

I don't know if it's the end of this discussion but it's a huge step forward.

I agree.

So this transgender person and a right wing Christian step into a bar.......

Great post from Bill, shows why he if my favorite Riffer.

I know people get upset at stuff like this, but I'm on the thicker skin side.  For example, as a Doughy-American do I get upset at the fat jokes?  The gland problem jokes?  No.  In fact, Final Justice is one of my favorite MST epidoes.

I know some will say its different, because I can change the way I am.  And transgenders cannot.  But I am also Southern, born and bred.  I cannot change this about myself.  The guys have done TONS of southern jokes.  Some could even be called offensive.  But they also make fun of the North.

It's done in fun people.

One of the most interesting things about this to me, is the credits of Final Justice where they actually do have the "maybe we should back off and be more sensitive" discussion, then just say screw it when Tom has more fat jokes.

This thread makes me want to see Joe Don Baker in drag, for some reason.
