John C Reilly, video games, actual video game characters.  Looks fun.

Woah, I didn't expect them to use real game characters.

One of my most must see films for this year.
Me too, now. That looks like it'll be a ton of fun. Very much a Who Framed Roger Rabbit for video games.
Oh you KNOW I'm on board, here. :^)

So, watched The Grey yet?

No, but it's funny you mention that one. I remember seeing a trailer where they're getting on the plane and there was an exterior shot of somebody scraping slush of the nose, and I knew right away what was coming. The whole bad weather/de-icing flying experience really ramps up my anxiety. I'll watch the movie because it's something I want to see. It's not like I'm unable to watch these scenes; it just causes serious anxiety. I guess I force myself to watch them, because it's kinda like forcing me to face my fear, almost the same way getting on a plane and taking off is. It's quite a rush. That probably sounds kinda weird.

No, no, I understand what you mean entirely. Flying in general sort of scares the tar out of me, and a massive anxiety I have is also the whole crashing scenario. And I'm generally the same way when it comes to watching such crashes; just gotta get through them, and I have gotten to a point where I can appreciate them on a technical level (or, sometimes, from the perspective of a horror fan). For actually flying, for short flights I've done enough where I don't have any issues, but for the longer ones... I find a quick viewing of Airplane! either before or during helps set me straight. Keeps things absurd enough that I can relax.

Anywho, I just bring up The Grey more as a joke (although the crash in it is one crazy doozy of a crash), although it is also an excellent movie. I'm glad you're going to watch it, and do look forward to hearing what you have to think of it.

goflyblind

weird. i watched a marathon of that plane crash investigation show while on a flight from vancouver to newfoundland a couple years back.

That's actually a really cool idea to watch Airplane! I'll have to try that. The Grey hits Netflix next week, so I'll be watching it soon enough.

Jim Henson Company To Develop 'Frog And Toad' Animated Feature Film

QuoteThe Jim Henson Company has acquired rights to the Frog And Toad children's books and is developing an animated feature. Written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel in the 1970s, each of the four books include five short stories chronicling the exploits of a frog and his friend, a toad. Lisa Henson will produce for the Jim Henson Company, and Adam and Adrianne Lobel will executive produce. Craig Bartlett (Dinosaur Train, Hey Arnold!) will write the screenplay and Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked) is attached to direct. The deal is tied to a licensing and merchandising program signed with HarperCollins Children's Books. The company is presenting Frog And Toad at the upcoming Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

Remember Frog and Toad? I loved those books when I was little! It'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

I loved Frog & Toad when I was younger, too. My mom bought me a subscription to Cricket magazine when I was a kid and I think Frog & Toad were featured in there once in a while.

I have never ever heard of this.
Me neither. But I am interested because the Henson company is involved.

They were cool books; funny and sweet, but with a strong sense of emotional reality. Frog was kinda laid back and open about things, while toad was a bit neurotic, and the stories were about how they dealt with different situations in the context of their contrasting personalities. The best part was that they wore slacks and coats, which I always thought was a scream.

I grew up with Frog and Toad as well. They were some of my favorite books growing up. I'm a little worried that the guy behind Hoodwinked is anywhere near it, but we'll see.

And really, despite any emotional or psychological exploration of the personality types of the characters in the books, the last sentence of your summation was really a big part of their appeal. I mean what the fuck. You guys are amphibians, you can't wear pants. You're silly.
