Hm. There were only two there that I'd both seen and liked.

I liked The Third Man. Wasn't aware of the sequel.

[EDIT} I also liked the prequel, The Man Who Wasn't There.

If we need to resolve a tie, I will add the tied movies to the next poll, and increase the votes and winners to 4.

d'oh missed first round of voting.  good idea.

i will nominate

Godzilla (1954)

the reasons are endless.  beginning the longest running film series.  starting the daikaiju genre.  adding the suffix zilla to american language.  inspiring countless parodies and tributes.  and being a superb film that depicts nuclear terror powerfully.

A terribly underrated part of the modern American language, that.

And people, The Thing is starting to fall behind. Come on, shape up and throw one in for the boys in the cold. But don't take my word for it, take theirs... in song:

The poll is complete.  We need 6 more movies to start the next poll.

John Carpenter's The Thing.

Like a B-Movie version of 'Alien' this movie sneaks up on you, grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go, tickling you occasionally on the way.  A roller coaster ride of a movie, fun, scary and intense in equal parts

The Host is fantastic. Important? I wouldn't necessarily say so, but it IS one the very best monster movies out there, and the genre would do well to take some pointers from it.

I also like that, like many movies from Asia, it doesn't confine itself to one mood. I personally thought it expertly showed that you can have many different moods in a movie, but I know people who thought it didn't work.
