I never knew he was a director too until I watched the Chaplin movie.

Shame.  He was a really great actor.  Obviously most of us know him as Hammond from Jurassic Park (which he was amazing in), but I forgot that he directed Gandhi.  I know people are more down on that movie in recent years, but I think it is a pretty amazing movie, not only in terms of Ben Kingsley's acting, but the scope that Attenbourogh brought to the film.

Still, I haven't seen a lot of his greatest works like The Great Escape, The Sand Pebbles, and A Bridge Too Far (which he directed).

I'll always remember him as Big-X.

When my wife read the news yesterday her words were, "Santa is dead."

Yeah, whatever your opinion of the remake of Miracle on 34th Street, it was the version my wife watched as a kid and Attenborough made an awesome Santa.  He was pretty much awesome wherever he went and whatever he did from what I can tell.
