Star Wars

This was meant as a joke.

So was mine, you know, the way people often think Empire trumps ANH. ;)

I think we should allow an entire series, if it makes sense.  This would avoid having a different vote for each film.  I guess I'll go with it:

Star Wars: The Original Trilogy

Also I don't know if it would be too labor intensive, but what about like a bracket sort of thing or a vote off? Like collect groups of ten until you get to maybe 50 and then pool them to pick the best 25? I don't know, that might not be right. I'm just envisioning a scenario where a movie from one list of ten is way better than some movies on other lists, but then it might not be included because of the list it's on. I don't know if I'm making sense.

If a movie doesn't win the vote, that doesn't make it ineligible for future polls.  I'd hate for a movie to be eliminated because it had a difficult match-up.  Perhaps we could create a limit on the number of polls a movie can be in, but for now, let's see what happens.  I wouldn't mind doing a Vulture style bracket once we had a big list, though.

Citizen Cane and Casablanca.

Might as well get the Classic All-Stars out on the field early.

The bracket thing is an interesting idea, one that sort of reminds me of days of old where Greg was doing his Best Movie Ever run-off. Of course Hitler ruined that one, or at least showed that a bracket system can be too easily swayed.

Sorry, 1 nomination per person.

In that case just Cane (When in doubt, go with Welles).

I'll trust someone else to give a hill of beans and get the other one a nomination.

Eh, the only one that is really needed to see (and the one that was influential) is the first one.

True.  Changed my original post.  [Actually, regardless of how it was released, I see the second and third installments of The Matrix as being one four and 3/4 hour film, as it is only one continuous story between the two.]  I originally put the trilogy since "series" were mentioned as going up as a whole if relevant, and the whole series was conceived as one story to begin with, only being split after the first film because they weren't sure they'd be successful enough to get funding for the other two installments.

[I just thought of something... had I put up 'Star Wars' first I could have - after people voted on it with 'Like's - come back later and edited the post to say 'Twilight series' instead.  ;D ]

I don't like the bracket idea if that means films will be eliminated, that's not really the point.  Maybe a 50 or 100 movie LoC for 'Best movies ever'?  :o

I actually had 3, but since I can only nominate one...

Ben-Hur

Reason: One of the few "over 3 hour" movies I not only can sit through, but enjoy every minute of it.  It has excitement, spectacle, decent acting, and especially on Blu-ray looks absolutely phenomenal.  Sure, you can tell most of the boats during the sea battle are miniatures with little "G.I. Joe-esque" figures on them, but I've always really liked this movie from top to bottom.

However, as a fellow of diametric opposites, this is tied with "Rock & Rule" as my favorite movie of all-time, so feel free to ignore my opinion on any and all movies from here on out. ;D
