Aaand, I'm all caught up!  Pardon my absence from the thread since...well, since the summer, but I had a backlog of games and podcasts to catch up with and didn't want to spoil anything major for myself (easy to do in the UK, though Facebook let slip on the winners).

Looks like my Cubs may become a force in the next few years with Epstein sorting everything out up there.  I don't expect anything major right away, as it seems like that franchise is about 30 years behind the times when measured up against similar clubs.

Lamont found out from the media that he didn't get the Sox job. Still hast heard from anyone on the Sox to say he didn't get the job.

I dont even know anymore...

Bobby Valentine?   Was Tommy Lasorda busy?

Beckett and Crawford got into arguments with Valentine last year. Players are pissed because they were told by Sox management immediately after Tito was fired "we won't hire someone like Valentine".

I will try to find the articles when I get home and post them.

And after all this, if the players hit and the pitchers pitch, all will be well.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the players have any right to complain about ending up with Valentine.  If they hadn't turned into a bunch of chicken eating fatties or essentially given up in September then Tito would still be here.  It's their fault (and upper management).  But the fact that the sox officials were telling players "not going to be Bobby V or a Bobby V type" is just further proof that it's a mess out here.

Red Sox re-signed Andrew "5.54 ERA" Miller! Hooray! Everything is salvaged! We're going to win 103 games this season! Who needs a closer or right fielder, or DH, or set up guy, or more starting pitching? Oh hello beer. Glad you came by! Now get in my belly!

*Ortiz accepted arbitration as I was ranting.

Angels sign Pujols for 10 years, 250 million.  Wow, that is insane.

I was not very thrilled when the Cards offered him 10 years, 220 million because that would take him into his early (or mid maybe!) 40s and the Cardinals could not affort to have the anchoring them down as they cannot throw money around like Yankees or Red Sox.   But I was okay with it as it was rewarding him for the previous 11 years and kept him a Cardinal for life.....sentimental reasons.   But why would the Angels do this?  I think they are paying for a name and to sell tickets rather than making a smart move to win.

I mean, I love the guy, but his production has been steadily declining and he is going to miss a full year with Tommy John surgery eventually with his bum right elbow.

He does not really get along with the press and I hope he does not fued too much with them in LA as STL is a pretty soft market and he had issues here.

Wish him the best after 11 great years in STL.

Now, what do the Cards do with the saved money?   Get a SS I hope

Oh, fuck yeah!!!

It's a great organization with an awesome fan base and an excellent manager. I think it'll be a really good fit.

I suppose going to the AL makes sense for him since it will extend his productive years once he starts to fall apart.  He can transition from the field to DH (or even take "off days" in the DH spot)

That is a MASSIVE contract though.  I don't think it's as stupid as the A-Rod or especially Jeter deals though.  But then again by state law I have to hate anything dealing with the Yankees.

Bob

He may prove me wrong, but 10 years is far too long.   I would not have gone past 5 years myself.   He is starting to slow down and I do not understand the Angels.   Then again, look what they are paying Vernon Wells.

D.B. Barnes

Sorry, just a little giddy over all this. It is a giant contract and I hope they manage him as best as possible to get the full ten years.

Wells was a bust, Matsui was a bust, Guerrero and Napoli start hitting the cover off the ball again after they leave, Morales' freak accident. The Halos could use a break.
