Thor is the rare superhero movie that raises important questions. Namely, the important question "If Thor was considered the good superhero movie of 2011, just exactly how wretched must Green Lantern have been?"

Yes, Thor, for all its critical acclaim, features not one, not two, but three distinct scenes of our hero being rendered unconscious for comedic effect all within five minutes of each other! (For the record, in order: Thor is tazed, injected and hit by a van. Rumor has it the Extended Cut features a scene where he is trampled by a hungry hippo.)

No doubt this cartoonish buffoonery is the touch of acclaimed director Kenneth Branagh, whose intention for Thor seems to have been "Let's bring out the Shakespearean elements of the comic book, but instead of soliloquies, we'll have grunting, and instead of intrigue, more grunting." Sadly, Branagh fails to deliver on the demands made by the most hardcore Thor fans, that he bring to the silver screen the short lived 1985 plot line where Loki turns Thor into a frog and he helps other frogs defeat some rats (this actually happened and you should look it up right now.)

So you don't get any frogs, but you do get fanservice, a thoroughly implausible love story and performance by Sir Anthony Hopkins that were it any more phoned in, would be conducted through two tin cans and a piece of string. Mike, Kevin and Bill needed a nice long Odinsleep once this one was over.

ALSO: 20Q's makes a return this Friday - 9/23 at 11AM PST - for the title coming after Thor. (A feature that has less than 3 stars on IMDB)

What!?!  This is great news!  Pretty stoked about this one.  Out of all the blockbuster summer movies this year, I wondered which (if any) would be first to get the royal riff treatment.  The only thing I wonder is how it will stack up considering it's very comedic.  Then again, I suppose "Iron Man" is too, and people seem to like that riff (I haven't seen the riff yet).

In any case, this will be a day-and-date purchase for me.   ;D

Oh!  And a new 20Qs!  Yay!

I really liked this movie, and the only thing that can make a movie I found good better is a good riffing!
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

Sweet! Can't wait.

In the meantime, I just discovered a ridiculous piece of Thor/Slurpee cross-promotion:

BECOME THE THOR OF YOUR STORE!

Which is a bad slogan when Thor's 7-11 ends up something like this:

Bob

"BECOME THE THOR OF YOUR STORE!"

That could be the most awesome marketing slogan EVER.

Gotta tell ya' gang, I'm really not liking the new poster designs. The cartoony look really takes away from the impact.

Besides, the "bobble-head" design has been in place pretty much since the beginning. It works. Don't try to fix it.

And Mike, Kevin, and Bill are the "faces" of RiffTrax, and they should be on all the products. They're more of the brand mascots now than DisembAudio is.

So, because I just can't stand it, I created an alternate poster for your consideration.  Hope y'all like it.

To be fair, you guys say this every time we make a change. No matter how minor or major.

This myth of being us shackled to precedent is simply that, myth - especially being a web-based enterprise; we can't afford NOT to shake things up from time to time. As with anything, some will hit, some will miss.

Mike and the guys should be represented visually on the posters though, and that is coming - so just hang in there and we won't betray your trust. :)

I'd prefer it to be a custom image, much like we've been having (where they're part of the movie, so to speak). If it's just going to be static images of them (like what was done for "RiffTrax Shorts" posters for a while - before deleting them completely from those posters), I'd rather not see it.

It's simply more FUN seeing them being "goofy" on these posters. It's part of the experience, man!
