Before anyone else starts in on this, for those wondering how the hell this is going to last two movies, this my theory:

As for LOTR, though, I just wish that every two-bit opportunist in and out of town weren't trying to sue Peter Jackson for tripping on their gardenias or whatever it is this time. 

I can sort of understand why the aborigines were upset that Jackson used their sacred mountain as the location of where all the Evil in Middle Earth resides and why they don't want him to film in that location. I mean how would you feel if people kept referring to your Holy location as the well of all evil?

To use the literal meaning yes, in the same way native Americans are aboriginal. However, Australian Aborigines are the only peoples who seem to have the term used to describe them in the modern context.

What if he'd said "natives"? I point out that he didn't capitalize it.  I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I'm just very interested in words.

I'd find it odd but I wouldn't have said anything I don't think.  I'm not trying to say he's a bad person, it's just the wrong term.  It'd be like if I called Native Americans "Indians" or something.

In Canada, the term eskimo is not used, but rather Inuit.  Also, we call our natives, First Nationers or First Nations People.  Just mentioning it for those who are curious.
