Also, it's more accurate to say Pixar took over Disney. :^)

Yes.  Disney's animated output has gotten much better since their merger.

No one's commented on this yet, but was that Dave Foley as the voice of the plane?  If so, that brings it up at least one notch on the watchableness scale.

Yeah, we need to bitch because there's a company who actually wants to make money. Those bastards. How dare they.

I thought it was Steve Carell at first, but that's just because I'm really bad at this.

... Oh, and "rawr Disney how dare you." Or something.

Oh, right.  I suppose someone needs to throw the old "Disney is a bunch anti-semitic Nazi supporters" accusation into the mix, too.

Oh, you're just begging to have someone reactivate that "Walt Disney" account, aren't you?

Well Monsters Inc. is next and I don't recall there even being a toy line for that one...

There's always been a toy line for Pixar films, but nothing like Cars.  Even Toy Story, which by it's very name you'd think would win, doesn't' come close.

Monster's Inc. had plush toys and such.

Off Topic (even more) but My favorite part abotu Monsters Inc was the fantastic post-release trailer they made just to put in front of the first Harry Potter movie (which opened up the week after Monsters Inc)

Speaking of Cars merchandise, I'm waiting for someone to combine one of the Cars characters with a Transformer.  I don't know if I'd buy one, but I think it would be a funny juxtaposition.

I'm just curious, but where exactly are you getting those numbers from? Is there a place that tracks that kind of thing?

It would be cool if it could turn into a charectar from another pixar movie.

Yeah serious.  I sure havent noticed an overwhelming cars toy line.  If anything i thought Nemo was harder to avoid.

Freely admit no official source other than seeing huge sections in toy aisles for years.  Toy Story had stuff, but Idon't remember there ever being as much stuff, or having as much staying power on shelves.

Though, this was helped by Cars being the only pixar series (I think) to get a TV series (more occasional specials than a series.  Only 9 episodes).

Edit found this about Cars passing 8 billion in global sales back in Feb.  and how they're expecting that they can beat Toy Story 3's single year Disney retail sales record with Car's 2 merchandise.

Hmm, maybe it's largely a local thing. Around here, I've consistently seen tons of Toy Story merchandise on shelves for the past fifteen years, but I've only seen scattered Cars merchandise after 2007.

Nah, there was also the Buzz Lightyear cartoon series with Patrick Warburton.
