yeah but in what sense could you call it up 2?  Unless he makes something else float in the air and all.  Toy story 2 and 3 had toys,  cars 2 has cars and etc.  Im not sure up would work.

Starman!

I actually liked Cars! I'd take that movie over Ratihoweverthehellyouspellit (the rat movie). Planes looks bad though.

And I liked that little sketch at the beginning, Johnny.

I'm trying to have faith but between Toy story 3,Cars 2,and Monsters Inc 2 it sure feels like Pixar is being turned into just another sequel factory.

Well I think there will be a huge quality difference in Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

Outline for Monsters 2 sounds promising though.

My general view is that if Pixar can fund itself for 5-6 years off a new Cars movie, and it lets them give us stuff like Wall-E, Ratatouille, Up.  I'm OK with that.

I heartily endorse this event or product.

I don't think they're doing it because it's safer than any of those other films, as they were just as wildly popular as Cars was:

Cars:
$461,983,149

Wall-E:
$521,311,860

Ratatouille
$623,722,818

Up
$731,342,744

I think it's just that John Lassetter really loves the Cars world and wants to make another film in it.

Cars is by far the biggest thing they have on the merchandising side though.  Those other three films you list had minimum toy and merchandising campaigns, that only lasted for the films run.  Cars merchandising has been continuous since the first one.

As I said the only reason this movie is being made is to sell toys,it's a 100minute toy ad.  That is also why we will only get sequels to movies that have already sold a lot of toys from Pixar from now on.  Pixar is own by Disney now so we will only be getting Toy story,Monsters Inc.,and Cars movies from now on because those are movies they can sell toys for.  It's very sad if you ask me but once Disney took over there was no way to stop it.

I'm not going to write off Toy Story, because the 3rd movie was brilliant.  I have no issues with sequels if they're done as well as that.  I have hope for Monster's 2.  Seems and odd one to do a sequel for 10 year later.  I don't remember it being the marketing juggernaut, so I'm hopeful they just came up with a good story.

Cancellation of Newt was disappointing, but Brave looks to be shaping up nicely.

Whats wrong with selling toys to kids?  Any one remember a show called transformers as far as i remember its only purpose was toys.  As was gi joe and He-man.  (ever realize how redundant the name He-man is)

Well Monsters Inc. is next and I don't recall there even being a toy line for that one...

Also, it's more accurate to say Pixar took over Disney. :^)

ScottotD

Also Disney owned Pixar before and they seemed pretty creative then.

Or, you know, because Cars was a personal passion project of John Lasseter's and, like mrbasehart suggested, he wanted to tell another story with those characters and that world. Crazy theory, I know.
