It doesn't matter what the reviews say or how much money it makes,it's an ad for toys not a movie so Pixar doesn't care as long as it sells toys.

Pixar does not make movies, they make 100 minute toy ads.

You keep saying those words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.

Doctor Who?

The only reason Cars 2 was made was because Cars 1 sold a lot of toys and now the toy companies and Disney want a new line of toys so Cars 2 was made.  No effort went into the making of Cars 2,they came up with toys first and then a movie to put them in. It's a toy ad plain and simple and that is why I refuse to ever watch another Pixar movie again unless they split from Disney.

sarcasm_made_Easy

Yeah doc.  Sorry that just doesnt make sense.  that make great movies.  The odds were eventually they would make something that wasnt well received and so here we are, but man there is almost no track record like theirs.

QuoteThe only reason the last few were good is because they were in production before Disney bought Pixar

Uh since when?

Quotedisney bought them and it shows what the future of Pixar is now that it is owned by the worst movie studio on the planet

Only true if you beleive that failure = success.

You didn't even read the Lasseter interview on the previous page, did you?

Cars 2 was made because the Cars franchise is Lasseter's baby, his personal passion project. Now, it looks like for the first time, the movie Lasseter wanted isn't the movie the public wanted, which is sad, but it's not the cynical "evil empire Disney" conspiracy you seem to think it is.

He has to say that because Disney pays his checks,he works for them so he is not going to let them take any of the blame.  Since when has a director ever admitted that his movie sucks before it has come out.

It's not sad that the public doesn't liek this movie it's good,it shows the public knows a bad movie when they see it and avoid it or at least pan it in the reviews.  Do you really think Pixar would have gotten money to make this movie if the first one had not sold a ton of toys?

yeah cause you know the only reason we got to saw 7 was cause of those jig saw toys they sold.  (in case you missed the thrust of my sarcasm im pointing out that millions and in pixars case billions of dollars of tickets sales will = more seed money for movies)

His name recognition is off the chart.  He could leave disney and make millions more,  he does not need disney any more than they need him its a mutually beneficial agreement.  not slavery

Fair enough, it's POSSIBLE that Disney's putting pressure on Lasseter to say certain things, but by all accounts, Lasseter has more control at Disney since the merger than he ever did before.

Here, let's take a look at some of your factual errors:

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 12:48:40 PMUntil people stop buying toys or Pixar breaks apart from Disney all we are going to get them them are toy ads because that is all Disney makes.

Did "The Princess and the Frog" exist just to sell toys? Now, I'm sure it DID sell toys, but if it was just about money, they would have made it CGI with an all-celebrity cast. No, it existed to hearken back to the golden age of Disney animation, which it did well.

Did "Tangled" exist just to sell toys? Maybe, but it still managed to be a pretty good movie.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 12:48:40 PMDisney has no creativity what so ever

The two movies I just mentioned dispute that theory.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 12:48:40 PMthe moment they bought Pixar Pixar was done making movies.

They bought Pixar so they wouldn't lose John Lasseter. That's why they promoted him to oversee, oh, just about EVERYTHING creative at Disney after the merger.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 12:48:40 PMThe only reason the last few were good is because they were in production before Disney bought Pixar.

Wrong. Toy Story 3 (at least, the version we know today) didn't begin production until after the merger.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 12:48:40 PMit shows what the future of Pixar is now that it is owned by the worst movie studio on the planet.

I didn't know Moviehead bought Pixar.

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 01:10:56 PMIt's not sad that the public doesn't liek this movie it's good

Again, we have no reason to believe that Lasseter didn't have full control over the project. If it really turned out to be a bad movie, then that IS sad. It's sad that a once-untouchable creative genius put so much blood, sweat, and tears into a project that didn't deserve it. It's sad that the franchise dearest to his heart is coming off as a cynical cash grab. And it's saddest of all that a filmmaker who once was so on top of things might be losing his touch.

Doctor Who?

Whatever.  You can go on blindly worshiping Pixar and Disney,I prefer to only watch good movies.    The fact is the movie is badly reviewed and the first one only made money because of toy sales.  I prefer to judge movies for myself instead of blindly worshiping movie studios and calling every movie they make the greatest film on earth.

I will not intrude on your blind worship of all things Pixar any more.

sarcasm_made_Easy

I dont blindly worship anything.

so your saying your going to go watch cars 2 because you dont trust reviews right?  And you saw the first one too right?  I know it was a good movie.  The fact its dvd sales aer so high is proof of that.

Also as to the worst pixar movie, bugs life.  I did not like that movie.

Doc, as much as I enjoy your hyperbolic vitriol, I'm not "blindly" worshiping Pixar or Disney; I'm only pointing out that your concerns have little to no basis other than your own paranoia.

Disney HAS made bad movies. But to claim that they ONLY make bad movies is just as ignorant as blindly worshipping them would be. Seriously, did you even SEE Tangled or Princess and the Frog?

Also, one last factual error:

Quote from: Doctor Who? on June 24, 2011, 01:33:59 PM
the first one only made money because of toy sales.

According to IMDB, it nearly quadrupled its budget in box office. That's hardly "only making money from toy sales".

You have the right to not like Pixar or Disney anymore, but couldn't you at least do it based on ACTUAL facts, and not just your own conjecture?

Hey can anyone tell me how you get idiotic posts to not show up on the page instead of just an idiotic post?
VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

sarcasm_made_Easy

I havent even figured out how to not make idiotic posts yet so yeah theres that.

Invader_quirk

Now, Doc IS going overboard about this by saying that Disney and Pixar do NOTHING but make toy ads, but everybody else is going overboard the other way JUST BECAUSE Doc is the one who said it. Both sides are driving the other to new heights of stubbornness.

He's right. Cars 2, I firmly believe, was made to sell toys and capitalize on the success of the first. Pixar messed up badly, either by caving to Disney's demands (if they made them), giving into greed, or by simply making a very poor decision to create a needless sequel with an unimaginative premise. Personally, I'd rather believe that they caved than believe John Lasseter's a total hack (although his Pixar movies are the worst ones, IMO). It's a spy movie because the only thing a kid wants more than a car toy with a face is a car toy with a face and gadgets. Doc was way toopresumptuous about what was going on before the movie's release, but I think these reviews have vindicated him.

As for Disney, I hate them passionately. Tangled was the same damn movie Disney's made a trillion times. All they do is this one princess story with a small animal friend that reacts to stuff. It looked beautiful, but it wasn't creative by any stretch. I haven't seen Princess and the Frog, so I can't comment on that, but I will say the clip I saw looked like a direct-to-DVD movie.

how do you figure?

You know there are literally thousands of other options here, this is a totally strange bifurification here.  Its not either disney is an evil corp forcing poor little pixar to make toys (again why is this bad) or lasseter is a hack.   They made a movie that wasnt good.  No big deal.  Besides why are you discounting the interview posted here in which lasseter talks about being a personal labor of love to make these two movies?
