Heh.

Coming to DVD on May 10 from Asylum Films:

To make it more fun, this will also be on SyFy ( ::)) on May 7, so you can see it for free.

Why is he wielding a hammer that looks like the SOL? Seriously, that Weapon looks like something Capcom would come up with as a gag weapon for a Monster Hunter game. It's just as silly looking as a Hammer made out of a big ham or a bullet spewing Cat shaped gun.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

I had been looking forward to this for quite a while (though not nearly as much as Captain America), and it did not disappoint. Hemsworth was great, Hopkins was great, Hiddleston... Oh. My. God. He stole the movie. He was absolutely perfect as Loki.

I especially liked at the end of the credits (but before the post credit sequence, so no spoilers be here): Thor will return in The Avengers. It made me squee.

Bring on Captain America!

I enjoyed it. I thought it did exactly what a Thor movie should do.

However, the only way I could catch it at the midnight show Thorsday was to see it in 3D. Seriously, don't waste your money on that; it was yet another argument against 3D post-conversion.

I thought it was shot in 3D.  Sadly my local movie theater has a habit of only showing movies in 3D.

I wonder how long it will be until we get a new Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy... IN 3D!!

No, it was some bullshit like Oh we're totally gonna pre-viz the special effects shots in 3D so it won't look as crap when we shoot it in 2D and convert it afterwards.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

That's too bad. The irony is that whenever they do that, it just pushes back the 3D cameras from becoming comonplace. Which is what really has to happen for this 3D resurgance to have real legs.

I might as well paste this comment from another thread here since it seems rather relevant:

I watched Thor this weekend and I loved it! Is it me or was this movie paced like the narrative structure of a comic book more than a movie script structure? I have to say the performances were quality. This movie is an amalgamation of Middle Earth with the real world of an Indie made character driven movie. The artistic direction was pretty well executed by Kenneth Branagh overall. He merged the Real World of Earth with the Fantastical, Shakespearian Realm of Asgard and made the two believably possible to co-exist in the universe. The comedic moments were also organically very funny and not forced in any way. I have to say that Stan Lee's cameo in this movie is by far the best cameo he's ever done in any of the Marvel related movies he's appeared in too. He got a lot of laughs in my theater for the one line he utters.

Now I'd like to talk about a few of the performances that really stood out for me in this movie. Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgard and Kat Dennings really portrayed their characters as living, breathing entities that were all 100% identifiable, that you could believe are real people you'd actually meet on the street in the real world. They were a delightful contrast to the fantastical characters of Asgard. Concerning a few from the pantheon of Asgardian Gods I'd like to just list them off for you and my thoughts about them.

Thor - Chris Hemsworth was superb! He really worked very hard to portray Thor as the masculine, headstrong God of Thunder who learns how to be a more compassionate soul by the end of the movie. He did a very good job of conveying the sensitive side of this character as well as that strong masculine side.

Odin - Anthony Hopkins was the perfect choice to play Odin in this movie. I'd watched an interview with him where he stated he was starting to get disillusioned with making films, but it was Kenneth Branaugh who restored his faith by casting him as the father of all Norse Gods. His Odin is a measured balance of power, wisdom and compassion. I don't want to say much as to give away certain plot twists and details, but despite the vast differences between Thor and Loki it was evident through Hopkins' performance he loves both of them equally and wants what's best for them.

Sif - She should have been considered for the part of Wonder Woman as she portrays Sif as a strong, capable warrior who can hold her own in a battle and is not afraid of a challenge. Jaimie Alexander looks like she could convincingly play the lead role in a spin off movie featuring a female superhero should they find a capable writer to pen a script for it.

Heimdall - A lot had been made by scholars of Norse Mythology within the comic book fandom of the fact that Idris Elba is a Black man playing a White character, but you know, that didn't bother me at all. What is important to me is how he portrayed the character, who admittedly didn't have much to do in this movie but is no less important since he is the Asgardian keeper of the portal to the other realms bound to one spot because of a sense of duty to his task. Idris Elba portrayed the character with the strength, wisdom and stoicism it required.

Which brings me to the character Loki, adeptly portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. Out of all the characters from the Asgardian Pantheon, his is the character that seems the most...human so to speak. The actor was originally trying out for the role of Thor, but Kenneth Branaugh wisely told him his talents were better utilized with the character Loki, and what a portrayal it was! What I seemed to think was that Loki really believed what he was doing was for the better good of Asgard. Not to give away too much about the character himself, he seems to be doing things that will help him grasp Heaven, but deep down he knows that Paradise is lost to him just because of who he really is.

All in all if you like escapist movies that are entertaining with a balanced mix of comedy and drama you will like this movie. I saw it in 2D but I do plan on seeing it again, this time in 3D with my nephew next time around.

The movie came in maybe a notch or two below expectations for me... Solid overall, I gave it a 7/10 on IMDB, good perfomances from good actors working with a script was a tad lackluster.... but to circle directly back to the topic of the thread, I really enjoyed Hemsworth as Thor. I thought he did very nice work. Having no real idea for the character of Thor beyond the standard blond buff viking with a big hammer... he did a good job making Thor relatable. He tackled the fish-out-of-water tomfoolery and the balls out action stuff with equal aplomb.
