The movie came in maybe a notch or two below expectations for me... Solid overall, I gave it a 7/10 on IMDB, good perfomances from good actors working with a script was a tad lackluster.... but to circle directly back to the topic of the thread, I really enjoyed Hemsworth as Thor. I thought he did very nice work. Having no real idea for the character of Thor beyond the standard blond buff viking with a big hammer... he did a good job making Thor relatable. He tackled the fish-out-of-water tomfoolery and the balls out action stuff with equal aplomb.

But you have to admit, compared with a movie like Fast 5, a movie that demands we sympathize with people who are absolutely selfish, lawless criminals just because they're Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, that script was better than it ought to be considering that Thor is not a well known Marvel property. I think the problem here is that the script is more or less paced like you'd be reading a comic book, which to your average moviegoer is a hard to understand medium.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Well, I haven't seen Fast Five, so I can't really do any compare / contrast work between the two... And I'm not quite sure what "paced like you'd be reading a comic book" means in a cinematic sense. I'm being perfectly honest here, not trying for any snark at all, but the last time I read a comic book from cover to cover was about 25 years ago... and that was a Thundercats comic of all things if my memories of my 11 year old self serve me correctly. So... I don't really know much about how they are or should be paced... I just thought Thor, the movie, had some script issues. A lot of the stuff in Asgard seemed rushed, as if exposition for audience wasn't deemed terribly important as the fans will know who is who in which alternate universe and what powers they have and whatnot. Some of the stuff on Earth seemed like obvious setups for other Marvel properties... and even as a guy with only a trivial knowledge of comics derived mainly from animated TV shows and previous comic book movies... I could pick up the "wait for The Avengers movie!!!" vibe they were laying down here and there...

I dunno, it just seemed clunky in places, maybe it was made more for comic fans than movie fans... That's neither a bad thing or a good thing I guess.. and it didn't ruin the movie for me by any means. I liked it more than I didn't, thanks mainly to good performances across the board and some nice FX work. I don't think rating it 7/10 is a hatchet job. I'll watch it again at some point... it just left me a little flat.

I guess considering my exposure to the first movie (Which made absolutely no sense to me at all, but I guess it's because I have to much estrogen in my body to comprehend the profound nature of the Fast and Furious franchise.) I know that that movie would not be to my liking. I mean Chris Hemsworth is such an absolutely drool worthy man in this movie. Loved the fanservice in the film.

I got back from it a little while ago and it was a lot of fun.  My friends and I felt that though there might not as much super-heroing as one may like,

we would have been perfectly happy to see more of Thor walking around Midgard acting all boisterous and viking-like.  For that matter, this film needed more Volstagg!  I love that guy.  I didn't realize till the end the Michael J Straczynski was a writer for the film, but it feels like it (in a good way).

About Heimdall being black, out of any of the Norse gods being black, he makes the most sense since in the comics (particularly the recent comics) he's shown partially in shadows (which have stars in them as if he was night incarnate).  Also, he was pretty damned awesome.

Call me crazy, God knows most people do, but I think I'm starting to develop a fantasy crush on Tom Hiddleston's Loki. :D He's not evil, he just needs a hug!

I heard about that Skrulls rumor too. I think it's a rumor, though. And The Abomination is still alive, too (Thanks, Betty! Dumbass.)

I would love to see Sam Rockwell TRYING to get into the group, but they won't let him.  :D

The Leader was also being set-up as the bad guy in a potential Hulk sequel.  I don't know how much of the Ed Norton Hulk story they'll be salvaging for The Avengers.  They've already had Thunderbolt Ross interacting with Tony Stark and the Abomination was a by-product of the Super Soldier program so they can't completely ignore that movie.

I really hope they have Tim Blake Nelson as Leader eventually. He's a realy cool character actor and could do an excellent job as Leader. Also, I find it hilarious how much he looks like Beaker.

I'll argue that it demands you to have a fucking blast. Unsurprisingly, it does prevail in its objective.

Like I said, I'm a woman. The Fast and the Furious movies go well past my level of tolerance for stupidity. The first movie had me rolling my eyes so much at all the testosterone on display. For me there's a limit to the level of steroid pumped up, smack a beer across your forehead entertainment I can handle. It's like all those fast cars are masturbatory fodder for guys who crave nothing but souped up hot rods and loose women.

P.S. I read this in a People magazine but Chris Hemsworth's wife is in Fast Five.
