Okay, I am NOT a comic book guy at all, age 47 so I am probably not their target audience, and the previews to me looked REALLY stupid.   However, people on this forum who's opinion on things I respect REALLY seem to like it a lot.   So, I guess I gotta give it a shot.   I may wait until Netflix though.

Are you a video-game guy?

You may want to skip it then. Or just Netflix to satisfy your curiosity.

If the trailers don't interest you, then I would avoid it.  The movie will just be more of the same.  The big appeal for me when I first saw the trailer was the old school video game nostalgia factor.  I went right out and read the comics, and really enjoyed the humor, but I think the trailer captures the gist of it pretty well.

Has anyone played the video game yet?  I forgot that it came out already (on PS3).  I had to go home for lunch to check it out, and it's pretty sweet.  I only played for a few minutes, but it totally reminds me of Double Dragon.

Yes, it seems Compound is playing it.

Only tried the demo, haven't read the comic nor seen the movie, but I thought the same thing until I realized you picked up money only a few cents at a time in order to buy upgrades at stores, and you can pick up the enemies.  I'd say it's a lot closer to either Double Dragon 3 or River City Ransom (which, according to Wikipedia, was a big inspiration for the end of the first comic).
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

Tried the demo of the game, quite enjoyed it. Reminded me a lot of the Simpsons side-scroller game, actually.

Anyway, the movie: finally watched it. Loved it. Want to have its children.

Artie

Just back from the movie - I enjoyed it (and I haven't read the books)

Aubrey Plaza almost stole the movie - someone get her a starring role stat.

QuoteYou Might Like It If You Like: 'Shaun of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz,' 'Youth in Revolt,' 'Superbad' (really any movie starring Michael Cera), 'Tron'

I can understand Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and to a point Superbad, haven't seen Youth in Revolt (or even heard of it), but Tron? Really?

I just saw it, and I didn't get "Tron" either. I did, however, get a face full of awesome. That was the most fun I've had at the movies since "Team America."

Well, Tron is a special-effects heavy video-game movie... I can kind of see the connection.

Going to see this next weekend; still pretty darned excited.

Good call. Still seems like an odd choice though.

Aaaaaaannnnndddd... it's a flop:
http://www.deadline.com/2010/08/first-box-office-the-expendables-13m34m-eat-pray-love-8m23m-scott-pilgrim-5m12m/

Came in fourth after Expendables, EPL, and last week's The Other Guys.
Well it never was going to be a big earner, what with it being a must-see to a niche crowd of geeks (and a curiosity to most others), but I do think it's a wee bit early to be calling it a "flop". Or is one day all it takes these days to show if a film is profitable?
